I have called out the #ableism of the pure ubermensh before.
    To protestations "It's not!!!"

#Ai has many problems, but like any technology, it has many benefits.
One of which, and it will become more apparent as time passed, is #assistedliving

In my lived experience, my cognitive power are fading.
I am getting dumber. I know this.
In 20 years time, if I live that long, I will struggle to make a coherent sentence.
I've seen my future in my oldies.
AI allows me to create work that I was not able to create since my 30s-40s.
And it is creative work, because you guide the machine as you guide a lathe or a chisel.

I can no longer pull a 3 day long crunch session fueled by coffee and ambition.
I can no longer master a new framework or tool, because it takes me a very long time and is very hard.

The young(er) Butlerian jihadists lack empathy and world experience.
Not everyone is driving a cognitive Maseratti.
Some of us are driving mopeds (or face other challenges as OP does)

"Thou shal not use AI, and if you do, that makes you an evil broligarch fanboi",
Is an ableist, unemphatic, elitist take, that is more telling on them, than it is on you.

Especially in the days of #openweight and #sovereign models.

  2. Getting the MIL ready for transition from #AssistedLiving to #MemoryCare. Finding out some of her 2 am shenanigans is kinda scary. Yes, she needs to move. Now we have to ease her into it without her deciding to embrace religion just so she can call us the antichrist.

  3. Senior citizens are leading the Voting Day efforts in southern New Mexico!

Excerpt of last night's field report from the Alamogordo, New Mexico volunteer canvassing army:

Mr J S at the Aristocrat, who's organized about 32 voters to get to the polls from assisted living, tomorrow, did us another HUGE favor on the mail-in ballots: I sent him the list from the Aristocrat Address, he confirmed, by less than 20minutes later that: 1 died, 1 moved to Las Cruces, 1 bedridden and didn't get her mail in ballot on time and too frail to "go out & vote": saved us about 45 minutes, during this critical time. ALSO, Mr J S took 120 Sharon flyers to the White Sands Mall, and passed them out, from his mobility aid-assisted situation - what an activist & supporter! You gotta recognize a living legend of enthusiasm for community care and community building, even when his chips are down. He can't talk on the phone anymore because he's too deaf and the tech is too complicated for him to use as support: but he does text, instead! I love our elders, who show me paths over obstacles, and how to inspire others from all life vantage points.

  5. In the US, not even $11,000 a month can buy you dignity at the end of your life

After watching my father’s struggle in a system that values profit over compassion, I wonder: how much longer will we accept a future where most of us lose our sense of human worth in old age?

  6. The basic principle should be: The only one who has authority over the question "is my life (still) worth living" --- is the individual self (depending on mental state, not age)

Given his or her (informed) selfassessment and choice --- all help possible should be given in all stages of the interwoven processes of #assisteddying or #assistedliving

What is feasible on either path is matter of continuous dialogue between that autonomous person and the involved health and care professionals.

  7. Every death is a beginning of the end of the beginning of the end. Or something like that; but there is no curiosity more powerful than the clues the dead leave behind as breadcrumb secrets of who they really were during their lives, along with all the curses left behind with the truths of their real, haunting, hidden, desires.

We, the living, are forced into the service of the shadows of the dead, to dig into the unwanted, the forgotten, and the unforgiven. We quickly discover the withholdings of a brokered life that are shattered open against all the hopes of the passed. Public truths forged as private lies are slyly revealed.

The weaponization of compartmentalization is often key to unraveling the mystery. Divide and separate. Tell everyone something, but never one person everything. That way, control is kept; desires are checked. Nobody has the full story. Only a reality-spun myth can be shared as gossip, perception, and relating.

In the corners of the night and hiding in the crevices of the abandonment, a sliver, a niche, of small truths are forced back alive like ghostly glass flasks recovered from a shipwreck. A curiosity that compels meaning.

It’s all there and it all becomes real. The donations. The esoteric splurges. The divine in the mundane. The old tax returns are the purest form of a rarest, radiant, truth that cannot be denied, even in death — the government demands to know! And so, all the numbers are there — sprawled out and bleeding — longing to be collected, paid back, sold, donated, gifted, or maybe even returned anew into something saved, as well as something earned.

We learn there is no hiding from death. It pinches each of us in our time. So the dead must hope to learn someone is always left behind to clean and reconstruct. There is no human salvation, or ethereal redemption, in the drudginess of an unearthed dying — only bits of the reality of the living matters now.

The unknown becomes spoken, and those who were forbidden to connect are now able to refine, and realize, in the brighter light of day, and commune in what had been lost, and abandoned, for 40 years in a forcible darkness.

Even a dimming sun may brightly shine against the dying of the day — and a hard truth sets in — as facts are revealed, and the vision of belonging, and understanding, all become alighted in magic hour chaos.

Understanding arrives in revelation. The forms and signatures are all left behind just to be crated, boxed, examined, and acted upon. And then forgotten.

    Now we know everything.

In the loss is found the longing for understanding; and the matrix of a hidden, and complex life, becomes reasonable, and stinging, and ripe for the frame of context and analysis that could never be comprehended in the burlesque busking of the active life.

And so it all ends as it began: Emptiness becoming belonging, and loneliness anoints everything that could have been.

Oh, yes, and the dead only leave behind inescapableness.

  8. @davew. I canceled #WaPo a few months ago (#NYT a long time ago). I think it was a #Thiessen opinion piece that was the last straw but it was a hard decision. Some of their reporting had been excellent, especially the articles on conditions in #assistedliving residences and #nursinghomes.

  9. "Among other provisions, the final rule will also require facilities to have a registered nurse on staff 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Nursing homes would also be required to provide residents with at least 0.55 hours of care from a registered nurse every day, as well as 2.45 hours of care from a nurse aide.

Definitely an improvement; obviously doesn't go far enough. Now address #wages and then do #AssistedLiving residences.

  10. CW: #Meta is a #FreeWebHosting / #AssistedLiving / #InHomeHealthcare management web site & #DatingSite for the specific crowd called it's majority userbase.

The saddest part about #Meta is that the sociopaths who gaslight there ' think they are popular ' and like the insane asylum of sociopaths under a microscope 🔬 that they are show their #FreeWebHostingCulture off to be the sad, sad, sad, sad place for hosting banner ads of a has been run corporation that is specifically optimized for the 80+yr old retirement crowd for ' dating and in home care and retirement communities ' web site that it has become for its ' userbase ' that has a tick tock clock running out and orderlies trying to keep grandma and grandpa ', comfortable ' in their ' golden years '. ♿👨‍💻👩‍💻

Try and change my mind! 11. Let's say I had capital and a piece of land...

Does ANYBODY know a person or business or organisation that actually knows how to do affordable small scale co-housing for disabled independent young people?
I'm talking actual projects & plans.

If so we need to talk.

btw it's a corner site of 1000m2. Local planning laws allow for 2 or 3 levels.

    Thanks!

  12. CW: Assisted living facilities in the U.S.

Assisted living facilities fall short when caring for aging US population, witnesses tell senators thehill.com/homenews/senate/44 "Senate Special Committee on Aging Chairman Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) cited a survey from the National Council on Aging that found 80 percent of adults are unable to afford four years in an assisted-living facility." #AssistedLiving #aging #longtermcare

  13. @_9CL7T9k8cjnD_. This is very true. My realization about this came when looking at brochures and ads for #AssistedLiving homes, especially those advertising #Memory Care units. It was often difficult to know who had #dementia and who was the #caregiver.
