#SCOTUS said Tuesday they will take up appeals asking the court to strike down bans on the #AR15 & similar semiautomatic #firearms in the #Chicago area & #Connecticut.
Similar #laws are in place in about a dozen #states, covering major #cities like #NewYork, #LosAngeles & #WashingtonDC. #Congress allowed a national #AssaultWeapons ban to expire in 2004, but #Democrats have supported renewing it in response to a series of #MassShootings & states have continued to pass their own laws.

The tragic #TumblerRidge #SchoolShooting in #Canada reminds me of both the #WaffleHouse shooting and the #ChristmasBombing in #Nashville.
In those cases, like in Tumbler Ridge, the perpetrator had a history of #MentalIness and local or federal #police knew of their possession of #AssaultWeapons and/or explosives.
In Tumbler Ridge and the Waffle House cases, police confiscated *and then returned the guns* that would later be used to murder multiple people.
UNENFORCED #GunLaws are POINTLESS!

Probably.#DonnieDumbass has a long history of agreeing with anyone he perceives (at that particular moment) to be smarter than him (remember in mid-2017 iirc he agreed with Nancy Pelosi on an #AssaultWeapons Ban and he said he thought it was a "good idea" until the #NRA lost their collective minds over it?)
So, if someone like Miller suggests "tattooing ID numbers on 'illegal' kids", his reaction is "great idea!", not "Gee, that sounds familiar." 🤔 🤦♂️

SOME PERSPECTIVE: The #GeorgiaSchoolShooting was the 30th mass killing in the U.S. so far this year, according to a database maintained by The Associated Press and USA Today in partnership with Northeastern University. At least 127 people have died in those killings, which are defined as events in which four or more people die within a 24-hour period, not including the killer — the same definition used by the FBI. Most of these cases involved assault weapons - which are designed to kill people quickly and efficiently and not much else. MVP #KamalaHarris, in 2019, said she supports a gun buyback program for #AssaultWeapons, not all #guns. Her campaign recently said that she no longer supports a buyback program.
Her running mate, Gov #TimWalz, is a gun owner & a hunter.
When #Walz signed 2023 MN gun law he said, "This is NOT about the #SecondAmendment, This is about the #safety & #security of our communities. That's what's happening here today."

@jcrabapple The most obvious things that will be of concern to leftist #Dems are that #Walz is a #GunOwner, a #Hunter & once received an "A" rating from the #NRA for his support of #GunOwnership .
The NRA lowered its rating of Walz to "F" after he changed his position to allow more restrictions on #GunOwnership following the #Parkland shooting in #Florida (including as was just pointed out to me) that, as govenor, Walz implemented background checks to prevent "mentally unstable people" from purchasing guns in #Minnesota .
So, while I do not believe that Walz will ever support a complete ban on gun ownership (other than for #AssaultWeapons ), he has already shown that he's willing to a support "common sense" restrictions on gun ownership that will lessen (but certainly not quell) the concerns of leftist Dems in this regard.

Tonight's the final night of the #RNC Convention. FOUR STRAIGHT DAYS of calling for "unity" while demonizing #immigrants, #trans people, and #DEMOCRATS in general.
