No, the AR in AR-15 does not stand for Assault Rifle.

Nope! The AR doesn't stand for Assault Rifle but that has absolutely zero to do with the fact that it IS an assault rifle. It was not designed for hunting. It was not designed for sport-target shooting. It was not designed for home defense.

Those funny looking "ribs" along the barrel... those are to keep the barrel from overheating during prolonged engagements with the enemy.

That vertical grip for the trigger hand and triangular forearm shape... that's for better grip to stop upward barrel drift during rapid fire.

And that 10 or 30 round magazine? Well lets just say that NOBODY has EVER managed to get more than 5 rounds fired at a deer before it crosses the state line.

Its a rifle designed to assault human beings and defend from attacking human beings. (Unless of course you buy into the Zombi Apocolypse thing).
