Fuku Akino 秋野 不矩 (1908-2001)
Fuku Akino 秋野 不矩 (1908-2001) was a Japanese painter. She was born in Futamata, She became known by her paintings of Indian themes, landscapes and peoples. When Fuku Akino was 54 years old, she took a position at the Visva-Bharati University, now known as Tagore International University, in India. via W #PalianSHOW -
"Gathering Spring Herbs; from the series 'Streaked Mist'," Ikeda Shōen, 1906.
Shōen was one of few women artists to attain any fame during the Meiji period. Sadly, her time was brief; she was only 31 when TB claimed her, so surviving paintings are few. But she did do some exquisite woodblock prints, like this one. Look closely: You'll spot some Western influences in their dress.

This is an embroidered tapestry from a noted woman artist of China's Southern Song period. Under the name Gang, she was a noted tapestry artist although nothing of her life is known, not even when she was born or died.
