A20 follow in the tracks of Sarah Connor and TVXQ.
I'm not quite sure how to classify A20. They're produced by Lee Soo-man but are not #Kpop; even though the members are Chinese and Chinese American, I'm not sure that they count as #Cpop either.
They're being marketed as #zalphapop, but this is the first time I've heard this generational label, which seems to me less helpful than a regional or national tag. Perhaps they should just be tagged as #AsianPop .
Whatever the tag, I like them.

Pop music agencies, for both idols and non-idols, should just change their contracts re: group name.
If they achieve this and that, the trademark for their group name will be transferred to them if they want.
They cannot work for a new agency, using their group name, for 24 months after the trademark transfer, and only after they fulfilled all other provisions of their contract.
IANAL & TINLA
At least the group can keep their group name if they want without having to engage in legal and publicity drama/war. Besides, if they fulfill their end of the agreement, they deserve to have control over their group name.

EXO Lay's #ShowItAll show is really hard for his trainees. They're competing with pro groups. Even if they match with #UNIS, a “rookie group”, they won't win. Half of UNIS members are pros already. And Lay's girls do need to improve.
Don't get me wrong, Lay's girls (they don't have a name yet) are talented. Also, the purpose of #ShowItAll is for them to learn and grow. Just that, it's super tough to match with experienced talents.
I hope to see Lay's girls debut.

Wow, #EXO's & EXO-M's Lay (张艺兴) is very protective of his girl group in #ShowItAll. I also love the concept of the show, inviting big names from other countries, to help hone their local talents.

What Was New To ME In East Asian Pop 2023
Amidst all the “Best of 2023” lists, I want to post about what was new to me in East Asian pop in the year that has just ended. I won’t call them “discoveries”, because I am not revealing anything hitherto unknown to Asian pop fans; instead, I am merely noting a little of what was unknown to me until 2023. Nothing in this list was in fact released in 2023, so including them in an annual round-up post would not have made sense.
The three replies I have appended to this post comprise South Korea, Japan, and China.
