It's #LibreMonday and I remembered a few day ago about a great game project born with the release of the #ArxFatalis source code : #ArxLibertatis https://arx-libertatis.org/. If you are a #UltimaUnderworld fan, this is a great game. I always like that kind of projects as it helps understanding the inside mechanics of the game.

I was trying to give Arx Fatalis another chance.
I love the graphics of this game. Great late 90s/early 2000s look, but with such nice textures and lighting in the Arx Libertatis engine.
And I hate everything else about it. The level design, the writing, the quests, the puzzles, those damn retarded goblins!
It's not as crap as Daggerfall. But still really crap.

I returned to Arx Fatalis after three weeks. And this is a game that I really want to love.
But... goblins.
Maybe the goblins and trolls are only on the second and third level and the rest of the game is very different. But the NPCs you're interacting with in the first couple of hours all come across as if they are written to entertain six years olds. This is so bad.
As much as the graphics with Arx Libertatis wow me, this game just doesn't work for me. 😐

Arx Fatalis seems to have often be treated as a poor man's Morrowind.
And after four hours of play, I can totally see where that's coming from.
It certainly is an interesting game, but in a world where Gothic and Morrowind already existed, this game surely must have felt obsolete by the time it was released. In 1997, it could have been very impressive. By 2002, it really wasn't.

I’m playing #Prey for the first time. It was on sale cheap and I noticed it was from the same studio as #ArxFatalis, which I consider to be a significant game design achievement from a studio with good values. When I started the game I selected all the options it says new players shouldn’t select, because I’m bad ass. Anyone interested in a stream of me screaming, running, etc?
