  1. Ok, so this is a long one…

    The first entry of 2026 in my ongoing series of #ThinkingOutLoud about #ArtsPedagogy touches on Dewey, Vygotsky and scaffolding, and the micro-phenomenological interview as outlined by Claire Petitmengin. And tries to tie it all to film education.

  2. This one ended up being quite long… In my continuing #ThinkingOutLoud series during my #ArtsPedagogy research semester, I return to #creativity and work though some more takes on it before starting to develop my personal theory of creativity.

    Short version: after rejecting theories of creativity that define it based on the output, I explore some alternatives and sketch a theory based on:

    - stimulus,
    - originality / novelty,
    - intention, and
    - action.

    I’m sure I’ll return to this again — if nothing else to show how this means #AI can’t be creative — but I think this is as far as I get before returning to work in January. There are still other topics to explore first.

  3. It's been a while since I last posted to my "Thinking out loud" series on #FineArtsPedagogy. Right now, I've been delving into the nature of creativity, which brings together both my work at The Norwegian Film School and the emerging work at MishMash - Centre for AI & Creativity.

    I have been troubled by understandings of creativity that emphasize product and value. I have read and argued with myself, and find I need to think of creativity as primarily a process, which involves intention and action.

  7. Like just about everyone else I know, I seem to spend a lot of time thinking, reading, and talking about #AI. And, given that I work in fine arts education, it's inevitable I think about how AI affects the arts, and how the arts affect AI.

    As part of my work in #ArtsPedagogy, I'm visiting the Netherlands Film Academy in September and have been asked to lead a 2-hour workshop around questions of AI and #FilmEducation and the arts while I'm there.

    And so: I've sketched some notes that can become the foundation for such a workshop.
