So I've decided that maybe I will share my art to social media platforms in a different way.
I'll be making a lot more blog posts, sharing my art that way, and then sharing the blog posts to social media instead.
I actually wrote a blog post about it! Ha!

🌾🏡 Friends, this is what my days look like right now! Spending a few days back at my parents’ village home helping out in the garden.
Digging potatoes and harvesting fresh veggies to get ready for winter 🥔🍅
In a few days, I’ll be back in the city, returning to my work and art space. Balancing rural roots with creativity! ✨🎨
Nothing beats home-grown crops! 🧺

Had dinner with friends tonight, and re-validated my existence.
Geeze it’s good to get offline and actually talk with people. I mean, genuinely talk.
I’m not sure this whole “online community” thing is doing it for me anymore. I value the relationships I’ve found here, but on balance I’m not sure the capacity to blast my thoughts via megaphone is something worth doing anymore.

I am so proud of how beautiful these prints turned out! I am going to print more bookmarks for my next show!

Selling yourself can be so hard! My second show this past weekend was no different, but I am so proud of myself for putting my art out there.

My new printer is fabulous!
It doesn’t do the full-bleed greeting cards I’ve made, nor the full-bleed 11x17” prints. It does other sizes, but not those two.
But what it does do is gicleé pigment printing instead of the dye-based ink I was using. And I can now make prints at larger sizes than I was previously.
So I’ll be shifting my future work toward 16x20" limited edition print runs of 10 (with optional frames) instead of the 11x17" runs of 30.
We’ll see how that goes.
The ink is cheaper in the long run, I’m told. And I’ve been stuck in a “must-make-new-stuff-constantly” cycle for a while now, and I hope that perhaps this will help me slow down and concentrate on quality instead of quantity. It’s a huge step forward for me, and I think it will elevate the caliber of the presentation of my work.
The print quality is still amazing, and while it’s subtle there is indeed a different character to the appearance of the prints. Maybe I’m imagining it, but there seems to be less “translucency” to the image? I dunno. It’s just more substantive somehow.
It will be a long slog to “retro-format” cards without the wrap-around over the spine, but I have to wonder if that might make them look more like actual “art cards” instead of mass-produced items. I’m excited about it.
Onward!

This week is kicking me hard. Printer broke, got a new one, and learned I have to adjust a crap ton of imagery as a consequence.
Helped coordinate a show at the library in their gallery space.
Hosting older relatives from out of town and doing a lot of site seeing.
Broke my iPad, and it has taken 6 days to download my work on Procreate to a second replacement unit until the screen gets fixed.
Vended at a street fair while low on stock.
And today we go hiking into an area where our feet are guaranteed to get wet.
It has been a week. Sunday, I get to slow down.

My printer died. It's old enough that it can't get serviced, nor replaced by another unit. I knew it was going to brick eventually, but of course it happens at the wrong time. There's never a good time, right?
New printer it is.
<sound of flushing as bank account disappears><choke>
I won't be buying anything for a very very long while now.

Today I painted some garlic for a friend whom I vend with at local fairs and festivals. She makes roasted garlic spreads and flavored olive oils. She suggested a garlic greeting card (of course she did!! Ha!), and I made one today.
I like it, and I think it will go nicely with my cherry tomatoes card. My hubby suggested I do a series with Basil and Cheese. Maybe make it a pizza card set. LOL! mmMMmmm, pizza... 🍕

Here's a new blog post about vending at some events that had inclement weather. And also the eight new bird art pieces I've accomplished in the last month.

Oh yeah and then they used AI to steal the fruits of my joyous labor that they said was worthless, but that would apparently leave AI dead on the vine if it's not allowed to steal it.
-
Every skill I've cultivated out of passion and joy has been deemed of no value, so then I worked to cultivate the skills to succeed on the terms of my employers, and it turned out those were never going to be considered of value either, because I was only ever going to be considered valuable if I already had money to begin with.

Yesterday I got up at 6:30, worked out, showered, dressed up and put on makeup and had two meetings, just like a real adult.
The only difference is that I didn't get paid

My initial interview went well for a local artist co-op gallery, and now the membership committee introduces my work at their general meeting next month. We’ll see how it goes!
Even if I don’t get in, I go on a waitlist for potential replacement members as artists retire or move on. I’m excited!! I’m stoked!

I have to cancel my livestream today, June 15th, as I have an interview with a local art gallery I need to prepare for. Wish me luck!
I’ll be back tomorrow, June 16th, 1-4:00pm on Twitch and MakerTube.

North Coast Open Studios is coming.
June 6th & 7th, then 13th & 14th.
Artists all across Humboldt County here in Northern California (no, the *actual* Northern California 5 hours north of San Francisco) will be opening their studios to share their workspaces and their processes.
I’ll be participating for the first time.
It’s coming.

Yesterday I got my newsletter out, I got two new listings up on my shop, a blog post written, and I got a speedpaint video completed. It was a full day.
Today it’s bright and sunny here in Eureka, so it’s about yard work. The next two weekends in June are going to be Open Studios events, where I open my house from 10-5pm on Sat and Sun to invite folks into see my work process and space. So today is the only day to do the yard outside and have it appear like we aren’t just growing wild.
Busy busy busy!!

You ever feel like you’re in a life-version of Google Street View?
I’m learning that my art life and direction are often revealed only as I move forward or backward. Everything seems to be a bit distant, and I can see it out there, but every time I take a step forward I’m presented with an entirely different view.
And what’s worse is that as I tap forward in a specific direction everything is blurry and lurching, then suddenly comes into focus when I have to look around and assess everything all over again.
I came to some deep epiphanies today. And I felt like I learned a lot about who I am and why I do what I do the way I do it.
And it made me feel good to be able to articulate all those things.
And, in some ways, deeply vulnerable. Because as I become more sure about the direction I’m going, the less I can hide behind the excuse that I’m still searching for my future and don’t know what direction to go.
I can only hope this means the lurching and fuzziness of uncertainty goes away. I’m hoping it means I’m finally reaching the waypoint I’m seeking and can settle for a bit into that state. The sudden realizations that only happen in staggers and jerks are just straight up exhausting. Every time I figure something out I’m wiped! LOL!
Onward, right?

I’ve got two updates today: one frustrating, one great.
First – artist missed the pre-agreed deadline, dropped a "will send when it's ready" at the end of the day, and then went silent. Not ideal. :BlobhajShock:
Second – oyster mushroom mycelium is actively taking over the cardboard!
:BlobHajMlem:Biology is definitely more reliable than some humans right now, tbh. :BlobhajSadReach:
