I love adding black backgrounds, borders & other areas of black to my artwork. In the past I mostly used India ink because it’s affordable, easy to use, and easy to find in stores. But now I'm curious if I can find something better.
I tested and compared 14 different mediums based on the following criteria:
1. Darkest value
2. Even coverage
3. Most matte

When coloring a piece, one thing that can help you avoid missing spots is to have a fill color that is both easy to see and easily distinguishable between the overall color of your piece.
This can be done with an off-gray color, or with a totally bright like. Magenta. It just depends on what you're coloring and what works for you!
