Got a little paint-happy and now I have a collection of ombre jars that are genuinely too pretty to use as actual jars. Worth it.

Does anyone else have a specific material or object they compulsively make art on? Because for me it's apparently jars now.

There are good news and bad news.

The good news is this is not yet another Linux issue I need to spend time trying to fix.

The bad news is the tablet/pencil is broken as it seems to happen on Mac OS with the proprietary drivers as well

Transitioning from Photoshop CS6 to Affinity Photo 2 is going SLOW. VERY SLOW. Some things are easy to figure out while others are just bizarre. Resizing the canvas shouldn’t function like this 😅 #artistproblems

I'm experiencing the artist problem of a sprawling archive of work and reference material that really isn't as well organised as it should be. If this were an analogue set of stuff it would be a room with towering piles of books and a floor groaning under the weight.

That feeling when you've been conceptualizing this illustration idea in your head all day and you're like "This is the best idea!! This is gonna be so cool!!!" and then you sketch it and you're like "...this looks really stupid..."

I know from experience it just needs some time/love/refinement but the immediate transition of feeling was very :bunhdidle:

When you're an artist online you have to put your signature/website very visibly on your art so people can find you.

When you do this, your work is not shared as widely because it's "spoiled" by said mark.

Unless you make the mark easy to crop out or remove, thus defeating the point of it entirely.

You have to either accept your work will be stolen and reposted without credit, or accept it won't be shared as widely, you cannot have both.

So after getting maybe 70%+ of that melodramatic scifi fantasy fairy tale fanfic (I need a shorter code name) written in about 2-3 days, I got stuck on 2 plot points for... I thought it was weeks, but it's actually only been ~10 days?? Anyways, I think my subconscious had a break through. 11K+ words now, closing in on wrapping this up, but then I had the brilliant idea of making this an illustrated story. My brain keeps moving the goalposts, it's very annoying.

In case anyone is wondering how it's been going since 3-6 AM inconvenient fanfic muse brain this morning, I am nearly 4K words in and have hit roadblocks on details. So while I wait for my subconscious to resolve these logistical issues, I will switch back to drawing/painting the picture with the butt that was giving me problems. 🍑 But also I have a library book return due date reminder so I guess I should rush through finishing that first 😂

I’m thinking of not doing exhibits anymore unless there’s a stipend (some have provided!). It costs me so much $ to exhibit my work…entry fees, shipping/transporting, preparing the work etc…they even take a cut if something sells! Their marketing is less than I do for myself & they say “exposure” but they don’t even share my website on theirs. What do you think?
