My bestie who lives abroad is coming over next week, so that lit a 🔥 under my butt to paint her fantasy portrait just in time for her 40th birthday.

Finished with white gold. The ruling pen really hated being used over mineral pigments, so I started over and glazed the whole thing with egg white before working the fine lines. It worked a treat!

I almost scrapped a design today. The lines felt awkward, the flow wasn’t right. Then I stepped away, made tea, and came back to see something new—a quiet rhythm hidden in the chaos. Sometimes the art just asks for patience. There’s a whole collection of this kind of work on the site.

Some of the middle steps.
The bathroom lino is neither like linocutting lino, nor like the japanese vinyl i like to use. It's more spongy and quite thin.
With the design fully cut-out it is ready to cast in a form screwed through the lino onto OSB behind. Gorilla tape provides a decorative element at top and bottom.
After the pour, it's _essential_ to vibrate using the mouse-sander.
Frogtape yellow taped up before painting with enamel.

First iteration of Girl with a Red Hat. I'm taking a slightly different tactic with Vermeer's portraits vs his genre paintings. The next iteration will involve pinning the pearl grid to the final wood panel. But instead of stopping there, I'm going to fill in and deconstruct the grid so the image is softer and more organic.
