Exposure to air pollution and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) has proven to impair cognitive function, whereas physical activity can enhance it. In a recent randomized controlled trial, Liu et al. investigated whether physical activity can counteract the impairing effects of PM2.5 by measuring hemodynamic brain values during cognitive test performance pre- and post-intervention using fNIRS.
