A meta-analysis of data from eight registries of total hip replacements, including over 1.9 million patients, estimates that artificial hips using cross-linked polyethylene or advanced ceramics for bearing surfaces have a 93% chance of lasting 20 years and a 91% chance of lasting 30 years.

Has anyone here had a total shoulder replacement? My bride is scheduled for a reverse replacement on Jan. 30 and has Qs about the relative merits of anatomical vs reverse procedures. (She'll talk more to her surgeon, of course, but other input is helpful too.) (We suspect her surgeon is advising the reverse based more on her age than on the condition of her rotator cuff, but Carol's ridiculously youthful for 68 (!) and as a yogi and former ballerina would regret "hard" limits to her ROM.) #shoulder #arthroplasty #aging #ballet #yoga
