Despite the discouraging advice of a famous person about not needing more art historians, this Philadelphia exhibition offers a window into an important recent cultural context, as well as an engaging contemplative experience.

I just saw a salary for a tenure-track #arthistorian at a public uni that is $65k. Per AAUP, average salary is $89k at a public across fields. Looked at salary online and recent hire was at $65 and most associates in department are earning low $80s. I feel like the salary isn't realistic for my family's needs. Should I apply? #academia

I take my spouse to aquatherapy. While we're there she'll ask me about some new #AfricanHistory story that I've picked up in my studies. Today, I told her about the work of an #ArtHistorian who discussed the 12thC trade link between West Africa and France. A random woman in the pool started asking curious questions, so I told her my personal interest is in learning more about international diplomatic relations that Medieval Africans had with European and Asian countries. Hi, I'm a #historian and #arthistorian, focusing on all things #WomenArtists, #womeninhistory, and #genderpolitics today. My first book, A Revolution on Canvas: The Rise of Women Artists in Britain and France, 1760-1830, came out earlier this year with #ThePaulMellonCentre and #YaleUniversityPress. I'm now working on my second book, a broader story of women artists in western history, under contract with #Doubleday (US) and #Viking (UK). /
