On Saturday we performed Renaissance theatrical art in Columbus. On Sunday we went to view Renaissance painted art in Columbus!

After our performance of "Arlecchino, Emperor on the Moon", one of our Players of the Patchwork suggested we attend a talk at the Columbus Museum of Art the following day on the restoration of "Hercules and Omphale" by the amazing 17th Century painter Artemisia Gentileschi, one of the few recognized woman masters of the art for the period.

The story of the painting is also fascinating, previously unknown to the world at large until being damaged in the 2020 Beirut explosion but being restore after years of dedicated effort by the Getty Museum.

We've explored works by Gentileschi and other artists for inspiration in commedia dell'arte!

#Scientists from the University of Sharjah have found that a naturally growing #aromatic plant contains ingredients with the ability to treat #colorectal #cancer.

The plant is a common herb.

It is scientifically known as #Artemisia #herba-alba.

It grows naturally in North Africa and the Middle East where the inhabitants have traditionally been using it as medicine to treat #bronchitis, #diarrheas, #hypertension and #diabetes.

Artemisia herba-alba is popularly known by different appellations like common #wormwood, white wormwood, or simply herba alba.

Dude! No, it's not what you might think, it's sweet annie (Artemisia annua) that grows nearly as weeds in the garden but, as I get high demand for it from friends, I've collected and am now drying for storage roughly 10 kg of it on a 1 x 1 m tarp. I mean, that's a lot of medicinal, herbal tea!! We also won't need any incense in the house for the foreseeable future, I'm sure 😂 (I find its smell pleasant though).

The air of suffering resilience here is an all-too-obvious reference to the artist's own torment, having been a victim of sexual assault, and then literally tortured during the subsequent trial to assure her honesty (and the trial was about the violation of her family's honor, not about assault on her).

The whole experience would break anyone, but here she is, showing herself as resilient in her suffering. While the wheel on which Catherine was broken is present, it's not at the forefront; it does not define her.

At least, that's how I see it. Your mileage may vary.
