  1. @pmcg they usually just ship them on a truck in a climate-controlled container & it’s not disguised – it’s not exactly a secret mission 🙃

this image is from after the #ArtemisI flight, returning the #Orion capsule to #KSC for further testing & analysis 👇

    Artemis I: Flight Day 13

    Explanation:
On flight day 13 (November 28, 2022) of the Artemis 1 mission the Orion spacecraft reached its maximum distance from Earth. In fact, over 430,000 kilometers from Earth its distant retrograde orbit also put Orion nearly 70,000 kilometers from the Moon. In the same field of view in this video frame from flight day 13, planet and large natural satellite even appear about the same apparent size from the spacecraft's perspective. On flight day 26 (December 11, 2022), the uncrewed spacecraft splashed down on its home world concluding the historic Artemis I mission. The Artemis II mission, carrying 4 astronauts around the moon and back again, will launch no earlier than February 6.

  4. A Million Miles from Home! 🌍🚀

On Day 13 of Artemis I, the Orion spacecraft captured this breathtaking view of Earth and the Moon, reaching an incredible 268,563 miles away from home! This uncrewed mission is setting the stage for future human journeys to the Moon.

  7. #NASA's #Orion capsule cracked under 5,000°F reentry temperatures, damaging its heat shield. Engineers are updating designs to protect future Moon crews. An aerospace engineer argues why a strong heat shield is vital for space missions:

  8. The #Spacetober prompt is Artemis today so I have made a digital collage of my Earth and Moon from previous prints to show the trajectory of Artemis I, the uncrewed Moon-orbiting mission that was launched in November 2022 and marked the beginning of NASA’s Artemis program, the agency’s first return to lunar exploration since the Apollo program (which ended before I was born).

  12. #NASA officials sound alarm over future of the #DeepSpaceNetwork. #DSN, a collection of antennas in California, Spain, and Australia maintain contact with missions scattered across #SolarSystem.
"I'm not sure who thought it was a good idea to put up #CubeSats with #ArtemisI." 8 CubeSats were tracked with DSN. But limited resources and only so many antennas, DSN had to turn away from NASA's other science missions to focus on #Orion #spacecraft and CubeSats flying with it. arstechnica.com/space/2023/08/
