I successfully arted* today.
Boyf loves it and it's the first time I imagined a thing, made it with zero prep and it came out even better than I had imaged.
[* Sorry you can't see it, it's a deeply private piece]

Art educators; best color theory workbook for art students. There are a ton of good oldie books but they are costly because they are not in print anymore. I would like the workbook students can follow and support my lectures. Thanks #arteducation #arted #educator #artacademy #arts #colortheory #colors #education #artist #ArtistLife #artbusiness #artprofessor #artbooks #colortheorybooks

Article: Adobe Alternatives – 24 Apps to Rival Adobe Creative Cloud (Free & Paid)
https://www.graphicartstoday.com/edition/yearly-production-marketing-2022/?open-article-id=21243332
My sister sent this to me because she saw @inkscape was ranked best Adobe Illustrator alternative (free or otherwise) and knew I was a fan. There's some other gems in there as well, including some web based ones for those of us with classes using ChromeBooks.

Good morning, friends.
Today my 4th graders start adding art to their now functional games. There's a bunch of ways to do this but today I'm opting for sending them to https://pics4learning.com/ as the art there is all vetted, includes easy to copy citations, and is licensed to be free to use for #Education purposes.
Because saying "I got it from Google" gets you a zero in my class. Artists shouldn't steal from artists.

Article: Midjourney Founder Admits to Using a ‘Hundred Million’ Images Without Consent
Copyright is a method for enforcing consent.
Stop using #AI art generators. Their programmers seem to universally not understand what consent means.

Article: You’ve got a new camera. Now what? Part two
https://photofocus.com/photography/youve-got-a-new-camera-now-what-part-two/
Most photo guides I find online assume you already have $2000+ in gear and know all the vocabulary to go with it.
It's nice to find one going over the basics, many of which apply even if you aren't using a DSLR or mirrorless camera.

CW: AI replacing a thing I didn't expect
Old school #ArtEd essays had students look at Duchamp's Fountain and Warhol's soup cans and argue if they were art or not.
Now we have AI, which appropriates far more than either artist ever did (I /like/ Warhol's aesthetic, but it's true...).
Students get to argue not just if it is art, but also, if it is, /whose/ art is it?
-
As someone with an #ArtEd degree and Visual Arts certification, I /despise/ the sentence "I can't draw."
Yes, you can.
You might not be happy with the quality of your work, but that just means you know you have room to grow - a far healthier mindset than those who think their work is already perfect.
But don't say you can't. Enough with that defeatist mindset.
