New piece of Sci-fi artwork for May! The wedding has now happened (couldn't have asked for a better day), and so suddenly I had a bit of free time. Managed to squeeze in another bit of art in April, bringing me back up to 1 for every month (even if technically none were in March and 2 were in April). Been work on porting over from C4D plus Cycles a setup I am semi-happy with for my "Glass Boxes" style of abstracts in Blender with cycles and got something I am semi happy with. Not the best of them I have done but progress.

Here is that finished piece, my delayed "March" piece. Titled "Iris" there wasn't much of a story to it, a bit of a "throw it at the wall and see what sticks". Some DoFresh and Alex Jay Brady influences in some elements though. Blender and Affinity Photo.

After a very busy start to the month I found a little bit of time in a couple of evenings over the last week and managed to throw something together. Not the most original piece but frankly the first aim art wise this year is to get making things again with some regularity and get the muscle memory back. Ending 2025 as I mean to start 2026, by actually breaking out the old tools and making a piece of art. A "classic" (for me) sci-fi spacescape made with a combo of fractals (mandelbulb3d), 3d modelling in blender and pulling it all together with a little overpainting in Affinity Photo (2).
At somepoint over the next couple of days I'll save out a few wallpaper resolutions and post it up on my website for download.

One of the various reasons I have been pretty quiet on here recently is because I was away on holiday (combining a rail and ferry trip to Sardinia via Bologna, with meeting family in Northumberland in the UK). Was my first trip out with my new camera and having processed most of the photos over the weekend I am quite happy with them! Here are a few for flavour and I will do a bigger photo dump (or maybe a blog post) sometime soon!

So in effort to to entirely miss another #PortfolioDay with no new art (and as I had some free time) I actually sat down this afternoon and opened up C4D. I, grabbed some assets from some old pieces and made some things! Here are 2 new abstract pieces with a dark and light version of each.

I tweaked the aurora part of the shader so it is now coloured by height, go from blue through green to purple as it gets further away from the surface... so a bit more realistic in its colouring (before it was just random). #SciFi #ScienceFictionArt #Art #Blender #3d #ArtOnMastodon #MastoArt #ArtByAlastairTemple

Spent the evening updating my procedural planet setup in #Blender. Quite pleased with the updates, the atmosphere, polar ice caps and auroras work much better. Here is a result complete with a random spaceship for the foreground.

Something I did complete near the end of last year. A new nebula illustration, I have called it "Hummingbird Nebula" (mainly for the colours).
Created with a fractal render (Apophysis and Factorium) and then overpainted in Affinity Photo.

Actually had the desire to do something at the weekend so took the model that I made for the collab and made a new thing for the first time in months!
Not my best work, composition could definitely be improved for a start, but it is something, and that has to count as a plus.

My second scifi submission for Vol 14. This is also based on the writting of Alastair Reynolds, this time it is "The Last Stand of John the Revelator", from his book Inhibitor Phase.
