I grew really tired of Stranger Things after like 3 seasons and just stopped watching, now all it makes me wish is that they had done the original idea more specifically based on the legendary #conspiracytheories around the "Montauk Project" which is a staple of weirdo and #UFO culture, you bet #ArtBell had episodes of Coast to Coast AM dedicated to it.

A younger friend (Gen Z) was complaining about Kennedy assassination conspiracy theories and conspiracy culture in general, and I couldn't help but defend the old school of conspiracy culture that had very diverse (if often anti-government) ideologies and only the fringe really dug into the nasty race shit.
As somebody who listens to a lot of #90s #ArtBell I'm essentially defending myself for still having an interest in the culture like pre-Bill Cooper's death

Sometimes when I have headphones in I will bob my head even when I'm not listening to music cause I've found if I look like I'm grooving people in the elevator and ground floor are less prone to interrupting me. Those would be so confused if I accidentally unplugged the headphones and they year a 1994 episode of Dreamland with Art Bell.

I watched this really cool nostalgic introspective about Art Bell and the impact he had on the people who lived in that time and place.
It might be easy to think that by entertaining conspiracy theories and magical thinking, he contributed to all this *motions around*.
I don't think so at all. I think that while he was broadcasting in that time and place, he was channeling all kinds of kookie ideas into a harmless form.
It wasn't until he left the air that Alex Jones and QAnon filled the space, to warp these tendencies towards authoritarian ends.
As this video partly points out, Art Bell gave an empathic and measured place for the weirdos, those who were still awake between midnight and 5am. He offered just enough skepticism and openness to keep these spooky spaces neutralized and benign. His empathy for every caller reminded listeners that we are all still human – that in spite of the vast space between us on lonely nights, we are connected.
So I got that subscription to Coast to Coast AM, and am on a bit of an Art Bell kick. As I listen, it's like night and day compared to today's grifter-led conspiracy spaces.
In terms of indulging my nostalgia and craving for liminal feelings that the Backrooms can only take so far, Art Bell is just what the doctor ordered.

I feel seen by this Necronomipod episode from last fall I listened to while walking this morning about a favorite guest of Art Bell's when all the guys admit to regularly listening to old episodes of Art's various shows as a comfort listen, something I absolutely do as well as they are easily found on the IA or various podcasters without having to give the current C2CAM leadership a dime.

I went out #walking after 8 PM, something I almost never do, because I was listening to a classic #ArtBell broadcast from 2001 (hilariously about how modern digital framerates on DVD and early digital camcorders and the like are training our perception to be able to see "shadow people") and the windy night with barren sidewalks seemed like a perfectly #spooky atmosphere.

I enjoy a good #Paranormal conspiracy theory (NB: this is not me saying I believe or endorse them). I feel they're like modern ghost stories or sci-fi / fantasy tales.
I used to enjoy #ArtBell's work on streaming internet radio when I was younger, and this #Youtube channel reminds me of that without the Talk Radio component.
