Over 20 years ago we spent some time in Field BC to explore what we could about the Burgess Shale. It’s amazing to comprehend these fossils are from the Cambrian Era, half a billion years ago. We hiked Mt Stephen and I took some rubbings of the trilobite bed, pretty high up. These formed the basis of the carving for the matte acrylic resist plate here on the painting, turquoise kootenia.

Some followers might have caught me mentioning (or indeed complaining about) a charity art auction I was helping organise.

It was last night. I am so relieved it’s over 🎉

Fair to say it went better than I dreaded (a fair crowd, enough bidders, ran smoothly, GREAT vibe, so much good will and pleasure) but not as well as the school-side organiser hoped (we fell short of her fundraising target, enough that we look at the profit we make from catering events and we look at the profit we made from running an event and go hmmm, was it worth quadruple the effect for only double the profit?).

We did have eight unsold artworks (of seventy, so not bad!), some just not suited to the audience, and some just plain unlucky.

EDIT: now only six unsold works, and the reserve on the Crystallised sculpture has been dropped to only $20 on the generous instructions of the artist.

If there’s anything there you like, I will *personally* deliver it to your front door or suitable drop-off point 😊 We ask only that you meet the reserve, which the artist gets all of. If you feel inclined to add a little extra for the P&C, we’d obviously appreciate it, but we’re focussed more on not disappointing the artists.
