For me, part of this album’s charm is that it doesn’t quite seem sure of what it wants to be.
And here, that fact is to the record’s advantage.
Sunshine #psychedelic pop, #lofi , bubble gum rock, #newwave , bizarre #artrock - it’s kind of all over the place.
At times, it’s a little goofy and OVERLY bizarre (see “White Freckles”), but before you complain, it’s on to something completely different and out of nowhere.
On whole, it’s strange, colorful and eccentric, & a hell of a lot of fun.
All that being said…
It’s too bad he’s a raging moronic fucking douche bag. Being a very creative person doesn’t give you license to be a remarkable twat, which he is.
His non-sensical spew pretty much cost him his career, and probably rightfully so.
Some people just can’t get out of their own way.
But I still like this record.

A really charming #indie pop record on a really nice Autumn evening.
LAPD consists of one Ryan Pollie, a super talented singer songwriter who wields really warm pop arrangements, really intimate sounding acoustic guitars, with flourishes of some psych-y strings.
It’s a little more elaborate than his home-recorded bedroom album that preceded it. By far more lush sounding, with a little more emotional depth.
A very melancholic listening experience, and at 36 minutes, a perfect record for a mellow Sunday night in the Fall.

1981 Canada reissue
Having a lovely Saturday afternoon with The Floyd.
This is probably the Pink Floyd recording that I’ve listened to the most in my life, and by that measurement, I guess you could call it my favorite Floyd record period, which I’d be ok with.
Meant to whet people’s appetites between Atom Heart Mother and Meddle, it’s got all the killer early singles on it, b-sides, soundtrack recordings from More, and the previously unreleased ‘69 track “Biding My Time”.
It’s the most satisfying front-to-back Floyd record there is, and as much as I love from DSOTM on, there’s nothing that holds a candle to the earlier stuff.
Lastly, I’m not a huge fan of “alternate covers” of things, but in THIS particular case, this has always been my favorite of this album’s numerous variants.

I posted the equally excellent Turtle Rock last week, and I’ve been giving repeated listens to this one as well.
I guess this was originally released as a home tape in April of ‘24, and this vinyl version is expanded to 14 songs, straddling that awesome line of do-it-yourself Guided By Voices, Big Star, some Beatles, as well as some of the clsssic sounding British Invasion bands, too.
I’ve taken quite a shine to Kai Slater’s songwriting, and I love these records.
