Myles Lewis-Skelly is part of Arsenal's vibrant presence as well as their future. He showed that again in the Community Shield. Column from the Principality Stadium #AFC #ARSMCI

“Declan Rice – he said, ‘it’s not done’.” Arsenal fans serenade Rice whose defiant exhortation to his team-mates after the Etihad loss proved so important in the title run-in. Arsenal will need that mindset again in a long, demanding season. That hunger looks very evident here in Cardiff. Usual caveat about Community Shield not always providing the most accurate guide to the months ahead. But this was the proverbial statement of intent: Arsenal hungry for more.
Martin Odegaard commanding: his usual finesse (neat goal) with a touch more physical edge (as Jack Grealish found). Kai Havertz constant clever movement. Bukayo Saka looking sharp and free of injury. Myles Lewis-Skelly has to stay, has so much to offer, and only 19.
New signings settling fast: Christos Tzolis lively on the left, creative, two assists, progressive with his passing, relishing hard work and the fray (a 50-50 with Ruben Dias); Bruno Guimaraes bringing even more intensity, physicality and passing to midfield. Manchester City were overwhelmed.
City were poor, defensively uncertain, Khusanov is not a right-back. Bernardo Silva’s indefatigability has gone. City missed Rodri – and he may well leave. But no point panicking. Will be stronger when Guehi and Haaland up to speed. Plus a new manager, who obviously needs time for players to absorb his philosophy, but tempo has to be quicker. New signings surely inevitable. This performance will be good news for Enzo Fernandez’s agent. Will City accelerate bid for him? And Bouaddi?
“Can we play you every week?” crowed Arsenal fans as their team outclassed City. Arsenal superior, deservedly favourites for the title, but naive to dismiss City so early. Too much individual talent - the challenge for Maresca is to ensure it's a team. Pep Guardiola always did. Mikel Arteta has made his players a formidable team. And Arsenal remain the team to beat. The score - 3-0 - and the scoreboard showed it. #ARSMCI

The life O’Reilly too much for Arsenal. He’ll get the headlines but so many good performances from Manchester City. James Trafford’s triple save, and good feet in distribution. Rayan Cherki put on a show. Antoine Semenyo excellent first half. And 31-year-old Bernardo Silva tireless and tigerish, creative in midfield in his 43rd game of the season. Shielding the back-four, covering back, launching attacks, the captain setting the standard. Just pure will to win in his 43rd game of the season. Silva gets the silverware. #ARSMCI

Totally deserved two-goal lead. Manchester City been dominating Arsenal, far more adventurous, far more inventive. Just better. Getting in the box, getting in the headers, exploiting Kepa’s poor handling for the first. O’Reilly scoring twice - getting forward from left-back. So athletic and swift across the grass, so aware of the potential of an attack and finding the optimum position to pounce. All in front of the watching Thomas Tuchel. Surely England’s starting left-back at the World Cup. #ARSMCI #CarabaoCupFinal

Thank god someone scored, maybe they'll actually start playing football now.

Sport distilled into duels, a mix of pace and physicality and occasional adventure. Doku v White, Haaland v Saliba, and the most significant duel of a relatively cagey final so far, Semenyo v Hincapie. Semenyo edging it with his speedy and direct running. Down the other end, Gyokeres edging his battle with Khusanov and Saka v O’Reilly even #ARSMCI

Die Aktion zwischen Silva und Trossard war so dermaßen lächerlich, dass man einfach beide ausschließen sollte. #ARSMCI #premieraleague #fussball

Just had to check who the referee at #ARSMCI was. It was Peter Bankes. No howlers, no controversies, let the game flow, let the players be the show. A really good, calm performance🙌

The more I see #Pep, the more I get why people like Jürgen Klopp decided to get a breeder.
Only few people can be a gaffer so much (continuous) time and have their mental health not decline trying to manage a club and trying to get that razor thin successfulness edge.
Even Jurgen decided to fuck off to Red Bull just to have fun. People like Arsène Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson come rarely in a generation.

The LFC fan in me wanted a nil-nil draw but seeing City's goal difference take a hammering is a decent consolation. #ARSMCI

It was a humbling afternoon for Erling Haaland at the Emirates Stadium, who pointed to the gold Premier League champions patch on the sleeve of his Manchester City shirt at full-time.
The Norwegian may have been on the scoresheet, but Arsenal stuck five past Pep Guardiola's side at the other end for only the second time in the esteemed Spaniard's managerial career.
18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly scored his first goal for the club and mimicked Haaland's famous celebration in the process.
