The Aroma Zapatista collective in Hamburg imports and sells coffee from small farmers in the Zapatista movement in Chiapas (Mexico) and the indigenous movement in Cauca (Colombia).
It seeks to use the concept of solidarity trade to create an alternative to colonialist and capitalist exploitation in global trade.
In solidarity trade, risks are shared and the self-administration of resistant communities is financially supported through sales.
What does that mean in concrete terms? And can it work?
A member of the collective will present the context and practice of their solidarity trade and report on its difficulties and contradictions.
Afterwards, we can reflect on this together.
