My friend was drunkenly complaining about being unable to find a woman to spend his time with last night and it made me so glad I prefer my own company and haven't dated since I was underaged. Being #AroAce means I miss out on a lot of heartbreak and loneliness.
It does make my advice on how to try to meet somebody automatically suspect tho.

#Introduction as I'm #newhere and just moved over from @[email protected]
This is my first experience with Sharkey, so pls don't mind me fucking tings up once in a while.
#disclaimers
Probably needless to say on this instance, but:
If you're transphobic, a transmisogynist, or respectlessly deadname trans-people to satisfy your unicellular lowlife … fuck off right here, thank you.

I'm a #neuroqueer #transfem PhD #catgirl researcher in music sociology (qualitative social research but also a bit of quantitative). My research interests (among others) are #clubculture , #electronicdancemusic , #queerstudies / #transstudies / #genderstudies and I'm certified #nerdy on my field of research, still doing cultural work here and there. Apart from wasting time on paid work, I try to focus exclusively on my PhD and queer/trans* community work.
Reading theory gets me excited, reading manuals doesn't. Love/hate THT, SMD, µC. I'm #aroace but interested in certain kinks … also gladly providing tlc for lab gear, vintage studio electronics, synths, drum machines, obsolete media.
Hmm … what else? I do #HRT and occasionally waste time keeping hosted FOSS software up & running. Albeit having a graphic design background I prefer shells to GUIs, had my first CCC meetup at #34c3 and, unsurprisingly, I dislike Big Tech/platform/surveillance capitalism. I'm genuinely and diagnosed autistic, small talk isn't my cup of tea but, hmu on bespoke topics and you'll get properly infodumped … hehe.

Yes, it's my autistic special interest now to think about aceness. I'm looking back at when I found out that I'm #aroace and what made me find out. So here's the story. I vaguely remember seeing the term "#asexual" as in the sexual orientation when filling out MIT's undergrad application form back in high school (didn't get into MIT). I had a little debate whether to select "straight" or "asexual", but eventually selected "straight". That might be my first exposure to a-spec, and I didn't think much about it. I made a big list of what my potential husband should be like, and used it to reject every single man who had a crush on me back in undergrad. I thought that dating meant knowing a man very well over a long period of time and rationally determining if he qualifies for marriage, and he would have a similar List for me. Back then I had aroace supremacy without knowing it -- I didn't know that crushes existed until my late 20s. I just thought that allos were stupid and irrational, if not downright disgusting; it included straight people and greatly contributed to my homophobia, because I didn't know that the A belongs in LGBTQIA+. So I was fine with not dating in undergrad. Meanwhile I was wondering if I'm autistic (yes, I'm #actuallyautistic, diagnosed not too long after I began wondering), and came across the term "asexual" again in an online autism test, though I didn't look up more info about it. I selected "somewhat agree" to "are you asexual" without further thought.
When I reached my mid to late 20s, I got a little frustrated that I still had no luck in dating, because I hadn't met anyone who checked off enough items on that List. Plus autism made it more challenging to form close friendships, which I considered a prerequisite to knowing if he would check off enough items on the List. I never fornicated, never even thought about it. I expected myself to marry at around that age. As everyone around me was dating or had dated, and some of my classmates were already married, I began to wonder if there's something weird about me. So I looked up "asexual" again and learnt more about it. There I learnt that there's "aromantic" as well, as romantic orientation may be different from sexual orientation. Aroace precisely describes my experiences so far. So I bought some aroace #pride pins and an ace ring and designed a pride poster which I briefly brought to my local pride event when it almost ended. At that time, other personal experiences made me gradually unlearn homophobia and transphobia. However, I did not think about being aroace very often and did not wear the ace ring or the pins. Nor did I go to pride in the several years after. Nor did I consider aroace queer without qualification.
So here I am, an old maiden in my 30s, still a virgin, still never had a partner. I only started to wear the ace ring and dig more into aceness fairly recently when my parents ramped up the pressure for me to look more gender conforming and attractive to attract a guy to enter a heteronormative marriage. There I really feel that aroace is queer, in that it conflicts with cisheteropatriarchy. And yes, I still have that glorious List, though its contents have changed significantly as I radicalized. I think now I got a better sense of how allos think. I'm open to finding a platonic partner, preferably another ace, can be a different flavor of ace, as I'm unable to wrap my head around romance, which I think is probably an aspect of autism, as autism and a-spec are somewhat correlated. There's no way I'm able to meet expectations in a cishet marriage. Finding aroace and autistic identities and resources is shaping my expectations from relationships, and very importantly, it makes me realize that I'm not alone, which is a great relief. And that some of us are building a radical movement against cisheteropatriarchy, giving me more revolutionary hope. I think I'm going to pride this month and march with other aces, especially the more radical non-corporate alternative march.

Mother visited, and asked about my aromantic pendant. I explained it to her.
To highly summarise her response: she basically said everyone is like that, and no one really experiences romantic attraction.
So I guess my mother came out as aro. :blobcatshrug:
Anyway, happy pride month everybeing. You're the coolest bunch of people I'll never date.

I didn't feel my authentic self until I finally realized what my whole deal was in my 30s as an AroAce Enby and suddenly everything just clicked and I could live my life the way I wanted to. No age is too late to know who you are, there is no rush to figure it out.

Happy Pride Month!
It's been well, rough to say the least for all LGBTQIA+ people worldwide. Especially for trans people in the US, UK, and India. However we will stay strong as long as we have each other's backs and we will always be here. As much as the bigots try, we're going nowhere. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
