Armistead Maupin, author of my beloved "Tales of the City" books and screenplays, has had a blog for a few months.
This story was just published, about his very first gay experience in the summer of 1969. It's sweet. There are about 10 "episodes" so far, all of them in his signature storytelling style.
For all my fellow car enthusiasts, he included this photo with his Sunbeam Alpine.
When I reread Armistead Maupin's "TALES OF THE CITY," I always picture Elaine's Minneapolis apartment as the one owned by trans heroine Anna Madrigal, and home to the other characters in the series. I just finished reading Armistead Maupin's final book in The Tales of the City series, "Mona of the Manor", released this year.
The PBS presentation of "Tales" triggered my journey to being the huge queen I am today.
It's delightful, reuniting Mona, Michael, Anna Madrigal, and others
We meet a battered southern woman accepted by a LGBTQ+ family, a transphobic lesbian, and an English manor house.

Reading Tales of the City for the first time. It is undoubtedly very good and enjoyable. That said, itโs nothing like as โfunโ as everyoneโs made it out to be.

In 1994, I was 41 and still in denial to myself about being gay. Michael was the first gay man I ever saw I could identify with. I'm almost exactly his age. Later that fall I looked in a mirror and came out to myself. 30 years ago this coming October 8. Good for both of us! And thank you, Tales of the City.

My copy of Mona of the Manor, the 10th book in the Tales of the City series, arrived today (publication day) courtesy of LargeSouthAmericaanRiver. And to think we used to make jokes about "fantasy decalogies." Despite reading these on and off since 1990(?), I think this is the first volume that I have had on publication day. And remember, #ArmisteadMaupin is an anagram of "A Name I Made Up."
#MonaOfTheManor, the 10th volume of #ArmisteadMaupin's #TalesOfTheCity series is supposed to be released on March 5th (tomorrow).
I already have it preordered on Audible and supposedly it will be listenable on March 5, but my question is --- which time zone are they going with as the time to turn it on (and can I game the system by using a VPN to access the book sooner)? I've tried this once (so that I had an Australian IP address where it already is Mar 5), but no luck.
So... if any #TOTC fans figure out a way to get the book sooner, please speak up because I'm chomping at the bit to read this next installment of my favorite series of books. --- And I'm planning to buy the ebook too, so if anyone has luck getting access to the ebook today, please speak up!
And always, eternal gratitude must always be extended to Armistead for creating characters that I care about so much, and for humanizing #LGBTQ people in literature, before most were ready to do so.

I remember watching it when it aired. Today it would be tame, then it was a little shocking, voyeur-like, to watch back then.
Lance Loud went on to be out and an actor, most notably to me as one of the bitchy queens in the serial adaptation of #TalesOfTheCity by #ArmisteadMaupin
This story is personal to me, because I'm mostly cis-het, but also love #Queer culture. My favorite author is #gay literary icon #ArmisteadMaupin, and I love a lot of music, movies, and other cultural forms that come from Queer culture. I am deeply appreciative of the LGBTQ+ community because this community has taught us all that we don't have to bend to any broken binary that others want to impose on us, and that we can find our own way.

A more diverse cast and writing team brought to life this long-awaited continuation of the 1993-2001 set of limited-run TV series based on Armistead Maupin's novels. Maupin's stories dealt with a mix of gay, lesbian, bi, trans, straight and cis characters who formed a family of choice while living in a house in San Francisco.
In the revival, whose plot was original to the Netflix series, all new trans roles were cast with trans or enby actors and there was greater racial diversity than in the earlier TV incarnations.

FURTHER TALES OF THE CITY - 5/6/2001, Showtime
The third of Armistead Maupin's quirky TALES OF THE CITY novels, with its array of LGBT characters, finally made it to TV as a miniseries almost a decade after the first TALES miniseries.
Once again, the TV outlet with the most money in the project was Britain's Channel 4. PBS had pulled out of the franchise years earlier, so Showtime cable was the show's U.S. outlet.
