Been a long time since I got a good shot of a #white-tailed #eagle. This morning in #Arkemheen two of them circled over, letting the wind take them southwards in the direction of #Hoogland.

Magnificent, stoic, but also a little bit clumsy looking, the spoonbill is always an interesting sight. I hadn't seen one in breeding plumage before yesterday.

Kluut / Pied avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta) making a bow and stretching its wings a few weeks ago in #Arkemheen.
Looks like the weather is getting decent enough to get on the bike early in the morning tomorrow and see what's new in the #polder

This weekend the weather hasn't been great for birding, but for a little bit of that feeling of #warmth, here is a female #yellow #wagtail I photographed last week Thursday in the #Arkemheen polder. Beak full of insects to feed to her chicks.

Pied #avocet family was crossing the road I was biking on, so while the mother and babies were crossing the dad tried to dive-bomb to scare me away and then tried the luring tactic of pretending his wings were hurt.

Female pheasant snacking on some dandelion seeds. I was very excited to get this opportunity to get so close as they are usually very shy and their plumage more camouflaged than their male counterparts.

A few photos I took after the fog cleared at the #Arkemheen polder in #Nijkerk last Sunday morning. First time seeing the sedge warbler and yellow wagtail this year!

I've seen them once before, but this one gave me plenty of time to take photos up close. I'm loving their colors.

The reed buntings / Rietgors in Dutch were singing at the top of their little lungs in the sunshine, a sign that spring is fast approaching. Taken yesterday at #Arkemheen #Nijkerk.

#Black-tailed #Godwits also known to us Dutchies as the #Grutto. National bird of the Netherlands.
They just returned from their winter holiday in warmer lands and #Arkemheen is one of the prime places to see a lot of them together. So I went out yesterday to spot them. A new #lifer for me! 🪶 #Birds #birdphotography #DutchNature #Netherlands #polder #Nijkerk #CanonR10

Had an exciting experience at #Arkemheen polder today! After chasing away a #white-tailed #eagle, this red kite came at me, circling above me and possibly contemplating an attack. After a few good shots, I chose to leave its threatening aura.

Fall migration is awesome; in early spring I was excited to have been able to see a single #NorthernLapwing, but last Friday there were fields full of them, hundreds or thousands all grouping up to head south soon.

No eagles today, but enough #kestrels and #buzzards in the #polder of #Arkemheen. I hadn't seen a buzzard with a white plumage variant before.

Me in #DeSchammer: Oh wow! so happy I've seen a singular #Egret!
Me in the #Arkemheen polder: Damn there's just too many of these egrets and #herons about! (and #cormorant, and #wigeons and #ducks and #grebes and probably more I can't all identify in this photo)

White-tailed eagles; adult and juvenile over the #Arkemheen polder. Their approach was alerted by many calls of birds fleeing. First they did some acrobatics before circling and moving farther south on their hunt.
