This was one of the first photos I took with my new camera. I went to the 100 Acres Reserve in Park Orchards, where there is a dam near the entrance. I had a huge surprise when I came round the corner and saw this Great Egret feeding in the dam. It doesn’t have breeding feathers yet, so I’m sure it was a juvenile - a very special start with a new camera.

A lone Great Egret walks the shoreline of this secluded Florida bay looking for breakfast. Loved the way the rising sun painted the atmosphere with a luminous metallic glow.

A Great Egret (Ardea alba) with it’s beautiful snow white wings spread wide, has just touched down in the deep blue waters of a local bayou spillway. Birds often gather along the edge of this spillway and catch fish as they pass by.

Nothing prettier in the avian world, imho, than seeing a Great Egret in flight or preparing to land. There’s just something about those ethereal, angel-like wings spread open wide that makes me think of what a real, heavenly angel must look like.
