Updated January 17, 2026, 7:00 a.m.Excerpt: "For those of you who might think the winter cold is over, think again. We are about to enter very cold territory for an extended time, starting around Tuesday, thanks to the polar vortex again.
The polar jet stream, which is affected by the polar vortex above it, has become quite wavy, allowing Arctic air to infiltrate the United States over the next two weeks."An initial surge of cold air has already been blasting parts of the Central and Southern United States. Florida saw 30-degree weather on Friday, triggering freeze warnings in the area."
