There seems to have been a port of some sort here in Pictish times and later the town's abbey was the birthplace of the most important document in Scottish history. The abbey was founded in 1178 by King William I for a group of Tironensian monks previously resident at Kelso Abbey. Yesterday we had the most amazing kayaking experience I've ever had. Lead by Camy from https://www.arbroathclifftours.com/ we paddled north from Arbroath Cliffs to visit a series of sea caves. Despite being a NE loon I had no idea how wonderful they were. Set in Lower ORS) sandstones (U ORS unconformity beautifully exposed!) narrow sea entrances gave access to passages and chambers with fantastic limestone speleothem / flow-stone. Highly, highly recommended! #Arbroath #Scotland #geology #kayaking

In Arbroath, Scotland, there is an abundance of buildings constructed with striking red sandstone. This photo was a tough one to get as it was surrounded by a high wall and gate, but managed to grab somehow catch this.
I think this building was an old school, but looks like in use as a nursery today.
