@simon_brooke Indeed, #MikeSmall does great work both as a writer and as editor of the wonderful @BellaCaledonia. Bella is one of the key forums for cerebral analysis of the independence movement and the breakup of #UKania.
I also owe Mike a huge personal debt for his gentle encouragement of my writing, including my two recent pieces on the Irish Presidential election #Aras25 #Aras2025:

Just in: the final sound of #HeatherHumphreys in #Aras25 #Aras2025 #Shutdown 😈

@maddler Absolutely! Even the basic electoral task of getting bodies on the ground to knock doors was a fail for them.
I followed the #FineGael machine closely on Facebook, and from town after town FG was publishing photos of only 4–8 canvassers. But the #CatherineConnolly campaign was posting photos of teams of dozens of #Aras25 #Aras2025 canvassers.
That's before we consider the intellectual tasks which they also failed.
The electoral inertia which kept them in power is draining away

Over half of all constituencies are now reporting the first count of #Aras25 #Aras2025.
Connolly 63%, Humphreys 29%, Gavin 8%.
13.5% of all ballots spoiled. The wonderful #GavReilly of #VM1News #VMoneNews has published his usual excellent election spreadsheet at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1N9PxE0z7tDJ8ggNZ7Idy69N2JoyecvdIgX_ZZG4CjoM/htmlview?pli=1 👍
So far, the highest support for #CatherineConnolly is 75% in Donegal. Connolly's lowest vote share so far is 54.7% in Cork South-Central.

I'm sort of amused at foreign media describing Connolly as a "nutter" or "anti-establishment". She might not agree with the current government and have no problem speaking her mind, however, she's held jobs and positions that are very much part of the establishment. She's been a Barrister, a Mayor and Ceann Comhairle, these are definitely establishment jobs. People call her far left. I find a lot of her views to be left of center rather than far left.
-
So it looks like Connolly will be elected on the first count with Spoiled Vote a distant second.
-
The story of the vote for the #Áras2025 will be the size of the spoiled vote which in some cases was bigger than those who voted for FF & FG.
The Irish Government are in trouble!

Some of these #spoilthevote photos just scream 'I left school at 12 to become a full time mad bastard'. #Áras2025
