Some ill-informed critics of #degrowth see it as a return to the Stone Age. It isn't. Perhaps the best way to think about it is via the notion of #AppropriateTechnology.
However, just out of interest, sitting on Eastbourne's stony beach last week, I had a go at flint chipping. I was able to make a few sharp flakes that I might try setting in a stick to make a basic cutting or scraping tool. just for fun, you understand.

Good example of #AppropriateTechnology: most motors coming out of broken appliances can be run in reverse energy-conversion direction, i.e. if driven mechanically they generate electricity. So you can make a simplistic wind generator, pedal generator or crank generator out of most "scrap" motors out there, not to mention motors are some of the simplest devices to build out of parts - only special component in them are the magnets.

@risottobias I can understand your point. I often think that when it comes to #ClimateAdaptation there is no one approach and there is no defined final destination. So we can strive for #degrowth but we also can work towards #sustainability and #appropriatetechnology and #solarpunk among other things. Everyone can find something to latch onto that resonates. As long as we are heading to a good place I don't care how they do it. We don't need uniformity otherwise nothing will get done.

A #CradleCatholic. As a wee lad, I did all the stuff - Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation. I was born here all my life. When I was around four years old, the church kicked out my mom and, by extension, my family. An #ExcludedCatholic? I explored other practices and faiths, #meditation, #yoga, #Buddhism, and all the things. I wanted to not convert to a religion or practice that I had not been born to or wasn't otherwise ancestrally connected. A deep dive into Protestant fellowships lead to immersion into the #EarlyChurch Fathers and early #ChurchHistory. Entering the #OrthodoxChurch, I lived in several monasteries and wandered around the US like the guy in Way of a Pilgrim. I was ultimately drawn to #Theosis and the #PrayerOfTheHeart, sometimes called the #JesusPrayer. Long story short, decades later, a pandemic, and a few ends of the world, here I am. The #2024Election US has me wondering about US Christianities that support social actions and movements that contradict the teachings of Jesus. Shouldn't Christ's Gospel teachings be central?

At a time of need, intermediate technology comes to the rescue.Intermediate or appropriate technology occupies that territory between low/traditional tech and hi-tech. It is more accessible than hi-tech costwise and can often, as in the case in the photo, make use of reusable materials. It can be fabricated locally with basic skills.
But, war stimulates innovation. Innovation is make-do with what is at hand. Innovation exists where there is a need. Russia’s war is what stimulated the innovation we see in the photograph. With electricity supply destroyed, the need is for heating. So what is there that is laying around that can be made into heaters? Car rims. Steel car rims turned into heaters and fuelled by wood.
Speculative fiction author, Cory Doctorow, could have been talking about this production of car rim heaters when he wrote in his Book, Makers: “This thing wasn’t invented. All the parts necessary to make this go were just lying around. It was assembled.”
Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant, wrote Horace. And, here, during this awful war forced on a people by a greedy, authoritarian state, adversity has done just that.
