#HotTake: the #AppleVision / #AppleVisionPro is failing because the market for high-end #VR Headsets is already oversaturated, and virtually all other players have an established library of #apps and uses, and proven compatibility with either #SteamLink / #WiVRn or #Monado and whatever Windows uses for #PCVR. Even with the #iOS compatibility, you just don't have a reason to buy a $1000+ headset just to hold a virtual #iPad / #iPhone when you likely already own a real one, and unlike cheaper headsets it just doesn't offer many experiences that the average user is going to pay that for.

A new headset line would take way more than #Apple seems willing to invest, especially this late in #VirtualReality #technology's cycle.

That said, there's definitely still a market for something cheap and easy, like a "Quest Lite", something that is made to hook to a lower-end #gaming computer's GPU and run stuff like tracking and reprojection locally, but doesn't necessarily have the power for anything substantial.

- It was perfect for businesses, but marketed to consumers.
- Too bulky and battery life was the big problem

Worryingly, #Apple is reportedly working on at least 2 such gizmos: pervert glasses (no!) and a wearable AI pin (another failed product category). Like #AppleVision (a technological marvel with no clear application), these are technologies in search of a problem rather than responses to user needs.

Apple Vision Air mogą zadebiutować jeszcze w 2025 roku

Według najnowszego raportu Marka Gurmana z Bloomberga, Apple intensywnie pracuje nad nowym modelem Apple Vision Air – lżejszą i tańszą alternatywą dla komputera przestrzennego Vision Pro.

Premiera urządzenia może nastąpić już pod koniec 2025 roku lub na początku 2026.

Na początku tego miesiąca informowałem, że Apple pracuje pełną parą nad dwoma nowymi następcami Vision Pro: lżejszą wersją w niższej cenie oraz modelem Mac-tethered przeznaczonym do aplikacji wymagających maksymalnej responsywności. Wszystko wskazuje na to, że lżejszy model pojawi się między końcem tego roku a pierwszą połową 2026 roku. Pomimo słabej sprzedaży pierwszej wersji, firma nie porzuca tutaj statku. Główną niewiadomą jest to, czy lżejsza wersja zostanie uznana za zamiennik Vision Pro, czy też tańszą alternatywę.

Vision Air ma być odpowiedzią na niską sprzedaż Vision Pro. Apple chce wyeliminować dwa główne problemy obecnej wersji – wagę i wysoką cenę. Trwają również prace nad drugą wersją, która będzie współpracować z komputerami Mac i będzie zoptymalizowana pod kątem maksymalnej wydajności.

Nie wiadomo, czy Vision Air zastąpi Vision Pro, czy będzie jego tańszym odpowiednikiem. Możliwe są też kompromisy technologiczne – nie jest pewne, czy model ten zachowa funkcję EyeSight czy wyświetlacze najwyższej jakości.

Vision Air może zostać zaprezentowany wraz z aktualizacją visionOS 3, co znacząco wzmocni ofertę Apple w segmencie urządzeń „Air” w 2025 roku – obok iPhone’a 17 Air, iPada Air z M3 oraz MacBooka Air z M4.

The Quest is more a toy and I am not so into gaming.

The Apple Vision is impressive, but way too expensive.

Also, I don’t think that I want to have this headset on for longer periods of time. I get annoyed by my headphones after an hour already…

In our office, we have room where you can test lots of VR headsets.

I tried the Apple Vision Pro, with the Dinosaur scenario. It was so immersive, I could feel the breath of the dinosaur in front of me.

Then, I tried the Meta Quest 3. maybe it was the demos, but the quality was so low compared to the Apple Vision Pro that I wouldn’t want to use it.

Then I tried driving a car in a car seat with pedals and driving wheel and immediately got motion sickness.
