And of course I tried to use it with Raspberry Pi 😂.

Here's how:

sudo apt install sg3-utils

Find the device: lsblk (e.g. /dev/sr0)

Wake it:
sudo sg_raw /dev/sr0 EA 00 00 00 00 00 01

Add a udev rule for auto-wake - create /etc/udev/rules.d/90-mac-superdrive.rules with the following:

ACTION=="add", ATTRS{idVendor}=="05ac", ATTRS{idProduct}=="1500", DRIVERS=="usb", \
RUN+="/usr/bin/sg_raw %r/sr%n EA 00 00 00 00 00 01"

Found an Apple Superdrive in a really good condition for like 12$. And it works and macOS Sequoia fully supports it - with one caveat though - it only works over Apple USB-C to USB Adapter.

Won't even work over my Satechi powered USB-C hub. But that will do for copying some of the old DVD-RW backups 👍

P.S.: the cheap one I had won't work either way with a Mac, so it's a good purchase 🙌.
