  1. A hearty apple pie with sweet shortcrust pastry and gentle spices. A very low-cost dessert if you have access to some free apples! Only £2.04 to make.

  2. CW: oh boy it’s apple review season and I got a new one

Today we’re eating Delcorf, a French varietal I hadn’t heard of! It’s a large, dense, attractive apple with smooth green skin blushed with red streaks. First bite had a sharp snap; skin has some chew but isn’t too thick, flesh is crisp and medium dense, medium juicy. The flavour is nicely balanced sweet/tart, leaning a little more sweet. It has that hint of rose flavour that galas have. 9/10 will buy again.

In happy local fruit news, my favorite early season apple, ginger gold, is out in the store now and I brought home a bag of 'em! :ms_green_apple: :blobfoxnomball:

  4. I love me some apples, how do you like your apples? #appleseason

  5. I just had my second mushy apple today. Which makes me sad, as I just bought these apples on Saturday. I'll stand by my claim that any apple can be great fresh off a tree, but once it leaves the tree is where it can show it's quality. I like a crisp, firm apple, none of these mushy mealy messes. #AppleSeason

  6. How many apples is a reasonable number to eat in a day? asking for a friend #AppleSeason

I eat an apple every day, even two on some days.

Just went shopping for supplies--I go about every two weeks.

    Did I buy apples?

    No.

  8. I'm eating so many fresh apples. #NewEngland #AppleSeason
They taste so amazing, and it's best when they don't have to travel around the world.

Suggestions for Storage apples? <I'm gonna web search>

  9. I'm picky about apples, but _nothing_ beats an apple fresh off the tree. They are in their best form. It's apple picking season in New England, the best time for apples. I'll eat apples of varities that I'd normally throw while arguing how bad they are, right off the tree. There is something about being fresh, that brings out the best in them.
I had a Mac yesterday, (generally not a fan) but it was fresh, crisp and bright, so good.

  10. Apple season is firmly upon us, so I'm celebrating some of my apple varieties,
🍎 Roter Mond (Red Moon), a red-fleshed apple from Germany/Russia?
🍏 Cavan Rose, a great one for tarts from the Irish Seedsavers
🟡 Frank's Seedling, also from the Seedsavers for eating fresh and juicing. It produces a beautiful, golden juice with notes of pear. A seedling variety raised by the father of Dr. Keith Lamb (1919 – 2011), founder of the Irish Apple Collection.

  11. Me, doing just about anything on the farm these days. 😁
Will need to set up little bins again: for eating now, for juicing, for baking/apple sauce, for storage. The West of Ireland is pretty hit and miss for apples, never mind any other top fruit, but when there is a good apple year, it's a joy.
