@geerlingguy new plan. It seems the #raspberrypi 4 I have laying around from a previous abandoned project should be sufficient to run #plex on my #appletv4k.

I now ordered 2x 5TB 2.5” drives and encosures. one to attach to the #NAS and the other to my laptop whenever I do video work. will set up CarbonCopyCloner to auto-sync whenever the external drive is attached.

Will attach another 2TB 2.5 drive I still have for Time-machine backups.

2x 2.5” HDD is decently power efficient.

Od ostatniej aktualizacji przystawki telewizyjnej Apple minęły już niemal cztery lata. To wieczność w świecie technologii.

Wygląda jednak na to, że cisza przed burzą dobiega końca. Według najnowszych doniesień 9to5Mac, wiosną 2026 roku zobaczymy zupełnie nowe Apple TV 4K, które ma być bramą dla AI w naszych domach (nie wszystkich, o czym za chwilę).

Obecny model z 2022 roku, napędzany czipem A15 Bionic, wciąż radzi sobie doskonale ze streamingiem w 4K HDR. Po co więc zmiana? Odpowiedź jest prosta: Apple Intelligence.

A17 Pro: mózg operacji

Kluczową zmianą ma być przesiadka na procesor A17 Pro (znany z iPhone’ów 15 Pro). To absolutne minimum, by obsłużyć nowe funkcje sztucznej inteligencji. Apple chce, by Siri na dużym ekranie w końcu przestała być tylko prostym interfejsem do wybierania filmów. Nowy system (prawdopodobnie tvOS 26.4) w połączeniu z mocniejszym układem ma pozwolić asystentowi na rozumienie kontekstu, bardziej naturalną rozmowę i głębszą integrację z aplikacjami.

Czip N1: koniec problemów z klawiaturą?

Dla wielu użytkowników ważniejszą nowością może okazać się obecność czipu N1 (tego samego, który trafił do iPhone’a 17). Odpowiada on za komunikację Wi-Fi, Bluetooth i Thread. W praktyce oznacza to znacznie stabilniejsze działanie funkcji Continuity. Jeśli irytuje Was opóźnienie, gdy próbujecie wpisać hasło na telewizorze za pomocą klawiatury w iPhonie – N1 ma to rozwiązać. To także lepsza wiadomość dla posiadaczy inteligentnego domu opartego na standardzie Matter.

[Komentarz] Co to oznacza dla użytkownika w Polsce?

Tu musimy wylać kubeł zimnej wody. Skoro głównym „killer feature” nowego Apple TV ma być Apple Intelligence, polscy użytkownicy mogą poczuć się… pominięci. Ze względu na regulacje unijne (DMA) i ostrożność Apple, funkcje AI wciąż są na Starym Kontynencie mocno ograniczone lub niedostępne. Istnieje duże ryzyko, że w Polsce zapłacimy „podatek od nowości” za potężny procesor A17 Pro, którego potencjału (w zakresie AI) nie wykorzystamy.

Co nam więc zostanie?

Gry. A17 Pro to potwór wydajnościowy. Jeśli Apple Arcade wreszcie dostanie tytuły konsolowe (jak Resident Evil czy Death Stranding), nowe Apple TV może stać się całkiem sensowną mikrokonsolą. Ponadto wspomniany czip N1 realnie poprawi działanie ekosystemu. Wybierając przyszłe Apple TV teoretycznie kupujemy sprzęt gotowy na zmiany – jeśli (lub kiedy) Apple dogada się z UE, będziemy gotowi.

Premiera urządzenia spodziewana jest wiosną 2026 roku.

The Siri Remote for my Apple TV 4K started to register right clicks as two clicks. It also would get stuck clicking up by itself. Very annoying.

I searched around and found this to be a regular issue with these Siri Remotes. A replacement is $60 with a good chance the issue will reoccur.

I got the less expensive One For All Apple TV remote instead for $40. It does everything the Siri Remotes does via Bluetooth including access to Siri. And the keys are backlit too!

The only two things that are drawbacks are that there’s no touch-sensitive area, it’s all clicks. A minor issue is that it’s not rechargeable, it takes two AAA.

So far it works well. It doesn’t feel luxurious like the metal Siri Remotes, but I’d rather have something that lasts.

Looks like tvOS 18.1 beta is available. 18 didn’t bring audio passthrough, and I’m not expecting it in 18.1. I know Apple really wants to control the audio experience and all that, but it’s breaking things, not making it better.
