  1. It’s not quite ready for public use yet, but I still want to introduce you all to my newest app: Applause. 🎉

It is an application built with #PocketBase for collecting simple analytics and interaction data for up to five counters.

Feel free to check out my blog post for more information on the project: amxmln.com/blog/2026/introduci

  2. Can I say that I really like Plesk? I think they need a clap. #plesk #applause

For basic hosting services it really is a well maintained system. You do not have complete control and the ecosystem costs money, but...

There was an #RCE in #Wordpress today. My patch notification from Plesk arrived before the CVE alert. 🤓

    Sometimes a #welldone and a #thankyou is in order.

  3. A quotation from Baltasar Gracian

There is no weakness without its admirer, so be not discomfited because your ways displease some, for they will not fail to be pleasing to others: nor let their approval of them make you vain, for still others will condemn them.

[No hay defecto sin afecto, ni se ha de desconfiar porque no agraden las cosas a algunos, que no faltarán otros que las aprecien; ni aun el aplauso de estos le sea materia al desvanecimiento, que otros lo condenarán.]

Baltasar Gracián y Morales (1601-1658) Spanish Jesuit priest, writer, philosopher
The Art of Worldly Wisdom [Oráculo Manual y Arte de Prudencia], § 101 (1647) [tr. Fischer (1937)]

  4. A quotation from Richard Steele

Praise from an enemy is the most pleasing of all commendations.

  7. A quotation from Samuel Johnson

He that applauds him who does not deserve praise, is endeavoring to deceive the public; he that hisses in malice or sport, is an oppressor and a robber.

Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) English writer, lexicographer, critic

  8. A quotation from C. C. Colton

Of present fame think little, and of future less; the praises that we receive after we are buried, like the posies that are strewed over our grave, may be gratifying to the living, but they are nothing to the dead; the dead are gone, either to a place where they hear them not, or where, if they do, they will despise them.

Charles Caleb "C. C." Colton (1780-1832) English cleric, writer, aphorist
Lacon: Or, Many Things in Few Words, Vol. 2, § 277 (1822)

  9. A quotation from Cicero

Those very philosophers even in the books which they write about despising glory, put their own names on the title-page. In the very act of recording their contempt for renown and notoriety, they desire to have their own names known and talked of.

[Ipsi illi philosophi etiam illis libellis, quos de contemnenda gloria scribunt, nomen suum inscribunt; in eo ipso in quo praedicationem nobilitatemque despiciunt, praedicari de se, ac nominari volunt.]

Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 BC) Roman orator, statesman, philosopher
Pro Archia Poeta [For Archia the Poet], ch. 11 / sec. 26 (62 BC) [tr. Yonge (1856)]

  11. A quotation from Mignon McLaughlin

Most of us would try to be noble, if we just had a claque we could depend on.

Mignon McLaughlin (1913-1983) American journalist and author

  12. A quotation from The Bible

Alas for you when the world speaks well of you! This was the way their ancestors treated the false prophets.

  13. A quotation from Joseph Addison

A man’s first care should be to avoid the reproaches of his own heart; his next to escape the censures of the world: if the last interferes with the former, it ought to be entirely neglected; but otherwise there cannot be a greater satisfaction to an honest mind, than to see those approbations which it gives itself seconded by the applauses of the public: a man is more sure of his conduct, when the verdict which he passes upon his own behaviour is thus warranted and confirmed by the opinion of all that know him.

Joseph Addison (1672-1719) English essayist, poet, statesman

  15. A quotation from Cicero

For what difference is there between someone who urges an action before it is done and someone who applauds it afterwards? What does it matter whether I wanted it done or was pleased that it had been done?

[Quid enim interest inter suasorem facti et probatorem? Aut quid refert utrum voluerim fieri an gaudeam factum?]

Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 BC) Roman orator, statesman, philosopher
    Philippics [Philippicae; Antonian Orations], No. 2, ch. 12 / sec. 29 (2.12/2.29) (44-10-24 BC) [tr. Berry (2006)]

  16. Clapping Hands

Although often associated with applause, hand clapping is more universal than that. The distinctive sound can mark rhythms, draw attention, and even test the surrounding acoustics. But how exactly does hand clapping work? A recent study shows that the acoustics of hand clapping come from more than just the collision of hands. Especially in a cupped configuration, clapping hands act like a Helmholtz resonator (think blowing across a bottle top), producing a resonant jet that squeezes out between the forefinger and thumb of the impacted hand. Check out the images above to see how that jet appears in various clapping configurations. (Image and research credit: Y. Fu et al.; via Physics Today)

  18. @Radical_EgoCom Just stop debating with people in general. Especially on social media, which has never been a good place for discussions. People use social media to advertise their viewpoints and complaints, only expecting applause and understanding in return.

"What seems to be the matter?"

"Doctor, my bowels had a movement."

    "That's normal. Everybody poops! [laughs...]"

"No.... er.... I mean, yes, everybody poops, but that's not what I mean."

    "What *do* you mean, then?"

"My bowels are walking at a distance behind me. Here they are!"

  20. A quotation from Chamfort, Nicolas:

    «
Esteem is worth more than celebrity, respect is worth more than renown, and honor is worth more than fame.
