  1. It’s now news when a country accepts a WTO dispute ruling without appealing.

    It’s news because without a functioning #WTO #AppellateBody, any appeal cannot be heard—the case falls “into the void”.

    Not this one.

    China says it will implement the ruling upholding some of Japan’s complaints that China’s anti-dumping actions against Japanese stainless steel violated the WTO Anti-Dumping Agreement.

    The case is legally complex. TL:DR the first-stage panel upheld some of Japan's complaints.

  3. 2/4 — The hope is to negotiate a text in the Autumn leading to a resolution by the next #WTO ministerial conference, February (2024).

    Molina said his talks were not a continuation of last year’s US talks. No information has emerged on what was discussed.

    The US is the main critic of how appeals are held in WTO #DisputeSettlement. In today’s meeting it blocked appointing appeals judges for the 64th time, so the #AppellateBody still cannot function.
