The only two bridges that connect Ohio and Kentucky in #AppalachianOhio at Maysville are under construction. One is closed down completely until January 2027. The other is partially closed and can not be completed due to 'American First' BS, "Build America, Buy America", that requires iron, steel, manufactured products, and construction materials to be US products and there just aren't any. #USPol #Ohio #Kentucky
The nearest other bridge crossings are east, 47.62 miles (76.64 km) away and West, around the same distance...

@LabSpokane I've had my propane LP whole-house backup Generac generator for a decade and live in Rural #AppalachianOhio with frequent power outages, sometimes lasting days. Never had a problem. I get regular and proper maintenance.
On the other hand, I know someone who got one around the same time as I did and had nothing but problems.
They bought theirs from Rural King and hired an electrician to install it. I got mine from an authorized reseller/installer.

Enough of this city, town, townships, and villages getting away with signing NDAs and skirting public input and informing the public. 3/ We had to make some sacrifices, like move to rural #AppalachianOhio but that fit our lifestyle. We are still 20 minutes west or east on good roads to shopping and life, including big box retail. 20 minutes west has more than 20 minutes east. lol We go east more than west. lol
We were lucky enough to find a property that had promise and good bones that was cheaper to buy than a most low end new cars.
We found good labor, so we would save up for materials, then labor. The crew of 3 cost $500 for a 7 hour day so we would usually save up for 2 days materials and labor and get as much done as we can.
Cut a lot of extra things out of our life to get it done but found other things to make up for it.
@Edelruth #AppalachianOhio is only going down to 71°F tonight. We won't be out of the 70s for the lows all week. Grant it, you got us with the 104°F but we are over that with the heat index. We have the humidity from the boiling Ohio River, too.

I got her those for her birthday in the spring and went with older ones that cost more because they fruit sooner and be damned if she already ate her first peach. @ai6yr It's just too hot and muggy under the heat dome to do anything. We have a cool front coming in tomorrow so our temps will be in the low 90s with feel like in the mid 90s. feel like 110F yesterday here in #AppalachianOhio on the muggy Ohio River.
Life in rural #AppalachianOhio: Penny wanted a restaurant pizza and the nearest one is 15 miles but delivers to a community center 5 miles away up the mountain. They won't come the last 5-miles down the mountain. She sat up there for around 45 minutes after they called and said they were on the way there but they never showed up. Ends up, their delivery car broke down on the way so she had to drive the entire 15 miles each way to get it. Looks like she is coming down the mountain now to home according to our mapping program...

@tim Amazon just came to my very small town in #AppalachianOhio where they are building what is claimed to be one of the most powerful data centers in Ohio on the Ohio River at the shuttered JM Stuart Station coal power plant . The amount of generators they say the are going to operate is ridiculous. They did admit it will only result in 30 perm jobs.

Yesterday, I found out that you are supposed to self-report to the county auditor (tax dept) any "improvements" over $2000 within 60 days of starting or they hit you hard when they do the property reevaluations or, if they find out about it, and our Republican county is big on hitting people hard.
I am self-reporting today to reduce any penalties, if any.
"Upon the discovery of a building or improvement that has been constructed but of which the county auditor has not been notified as required by this section, the county auditor shall appraise it and place it upon the tax list and duplicate at its taxable value, together with a penalty equal to fifty per cent of the amount of taxes that would have been charged against the building or improvement from the date of construction to the date of discovery had the county auditor been notified of its construction as required by this section."
If we end up in tax court, everybody on the fediverse knows we started our improvements with the intent of replacing the flat roof, #PaulsRoof, (which should be exempt from reporting) then at some point, decided to turn the carport into a health room after the bad winter prevented Penny from going to elective cardiac rehab like she did three times per week for over a year after her heart attack.
