Two little hearts, one cozy chair, and a whole lot of love. 🐾❤️ Sometimes happiness is simply having your best friend right beside you. The #BabySharks
Hanging out in the #Appalachian Mountains at the @Appalachian Bungalow. Too hot to play outside.

@Appalachian I have discovered the #Veggie Gifter. It is our 81 year old #neighbor across the street.
I was in the yard with the Yorkies and she came running across the street with a big bag of fresh #garden #vegetables.
My gosh, I love small town #America.

#Caturday. Apparently the #Appalachian Mountain Bungalow came with four #feral neighborhood #cats.
We are calling this one Cali. She comes just so close and then runs away. But we are making progress. She now allows us to go in our backyard when she is on her throne (fence). The #Yorkies are convinced they can be besties. 🤔
Next week, we are going to bribe her with treats.

Happy International Cat Day! Just received my first bad review on my book GOOSE CREEK HOLLER. Pretty harsh, and while I get where the reviewer is coming from, did he actually read the part about the other Southern delicacies consumed by the Appalachian family of Buchnells? It also starts with a "G". I think not, or he might have given a more favorable review and at least a one paw up. And it's hollar, not holler, Mr. Harrison. Sheesh, reviewers. #cats #cat #bookReview #reviews #review #mastodon #fediverse #books #booksky #bookstodon #book #humor #fun #caturday #saturday #goose #goosecreekholler #sophiajanehayden #novels #novel #Southern #Appalachia #Appalachian #mysteryThriller #mystery #writingCommunity #writing #writer #writers #scribesAndMakers #writingCommunity #reading #read #readersofmastodon #readingCommunity #readin2026 #felines #harrison #catskills #words #iamwriting

SUNDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO! “Dumb Angel (live)” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1adaRT-TVpU A 2002 live take of my surrealistic pop song that I wrote after a dream that included Brian Wilson, Lewis Carroll, and Elvis Presley. In my dream they all made an appearance where I grew up in the backwater Appalachian village of Avis PA.

If I Don’t Get the Years, I Want the Minutes
Berry and I have lived our life side by side for nearly fifteen years now. Not “most of the time” .... We stay together. When we work, we work together. When we run errands, we run them together. When we go for a drive, we both get in the car or truck. Some people might look at us and think it’s too much - too close, too constant, too together. But they don’t live our life. They don’t know our story. They don’t know what I've lost, or how fast I've seen life can change. Some […]https://lauraleacupp.wordpress.com/2026/07/07/if-i-dont-get-the-years-i-want-the-minutes/

"O Death", also known as "O, Death", "Oh Death", "Conversations with Death", or "A Conversation with Death", is a traditional #Appalachian folk song, listed as #number4933 in the #RoudFolkSongIndex. The song is generally attributed to the musician and Baptist preacher #LloydChandler, but it was likely taken or adapted from folk songs already existing in the region. The song has been covered in a variety of contexts, including films, video games, and television.

After almost a year from buying a place in the #BlueRidgeMountains, we finally had a #datenight. I promise you that there is nothing like living in a small town and supporting small business owners. 🏡
Living slow, dining local, and drinking something strong (yes, #moonshine) under #Appalachian skies. Around here, the sunsets stop traffic, everybody knows your name, and the stories get better after dark. Small town life may not move fast but it sure knows how to live. I am so fortunate. The sunsets are pretty fabulous too!
Also, how cool is it that I'm standing in the middle of the road to take this picture. 😁

Where the Fae Still Wander Free
There is a place in the Appalachian spine where the mountains remember before memory— where mist does not merely drift, but thinks. There, the veil has thinned— not torn, not broken— but lifted, gently, as though two worlds agreed to breathe the same breath. And in that quiet covenant, the fae still roam….https://kandiblaze.wordpress.com/2026/04/28/where-the-fae-still-wander-free/

As far as we know, we are the only prison book program on Mastodon. However, there are many other prison book programs in the United States. One is the #Appalachian Prison Book Program, which sends books to people incarcerated in #WestVirginia, #Virginia, #Tennessee, #Kentucky, #Ohio and #Maryland. The founder, Katy Ryan, has some quotes online at https://www.newswise.com/articles/expert-on-prison-education-says-books-open-doors-for-incarcerated-people

An #Appalachian saying...
What we give doesn't always return, but what we give is always what we are.

#Dallas glowing like a circuit board beneath the wing tonight ✨
But the best part of the journey is what comes next. Heading #home to the quiet ridges of #Appalachia and my beloved Tiger Mountain, where the lights grow fewer, the stars grow brighter, and the #Appalachian mountains are my home. Did I mention the #BabySharks? 🐶
Big city below, Blue Ridge ahead.
Homeward bound. 💕#DallasFromAbove #AppalachiaBound #BlueRidgeMountains #AncestryRoads #MountainHome @Appalachian

Hype for the Future 99A: The Frontier Culture of Augusta County, Virginia
Disclaimer Within the Commonwealth of Virginia, independent cities can occasionally be classified within the associated counties; however, the cities are politically separate from the surrounding counties as per the state constitution. This post pertains to the Cities of Staunton and Waynesboro in addition to Augusta County proper. Introduction Traditionally a significantly larger county associated with the entire frontier of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the County of Augusta, named for […] -
