I suspect there may be many people out there, who just don’t like sex that much, or (like me) not AT ALL, but due to the cultural expectation that "everyone wants and likes sex!", they feel pressured into living a false life just to "be normal".
In discussions I learned many out ace ppl figured themselves out surprisingly late in life.
Aphobic tropes cannot die FAST enough.
-
One of the BIGGEST aphobic tropes is the idea that #asexual people are "broken" or are doomed to be sad/depressed, as if they "lost" something important in life for being asexual.
To me, this is completely ironic. There was a time where I falsely thought of myself as heterosexual and I felt pressured into being someone who I wasn't.
But once I realized I was simply asexual, all those worries DISAPPEARED, and I’m actually HAPPY to know my true self. 🙂

#Aphobia is bigotry against #asexual and #aromantic people.
Aphobia is different than other forms of #queerphobia. But it still SUCKS.
Common aphobic tropes include:
👎 Denying that asexual/aromantic ppl exist
👎 Dogmatic ideologies that claim that "everyone" must like/want sex and romantic love
👎 Framing asexual and aromantic ppl as "broken" or "inherently depressed" -

If you think #Rowling's #aphobia is somehow random or will shock her #transphobic followers enough for them to give up on her, I assure you: it's not, and it won't. Transphobia and aphobia have gone hand-in-hand for a long time now, and ace exclusionism is often the first step down the #TERF pipeline (because if you can convince people to exclude one type of #queer person, it's easier to convince them to exclude another).

"Acephobic conspiracy theories have transphobic and fascist roots"
Yes.
https://prismreports.org/2023/01/13/acephobic-conspiracy-theories-transphobic-fascist-roots/
(acephobic = being bigoted against asexual people)
I can personally confirm this. Many of the loudest acephobes I saw online are also very loud transphobes.

I recently listened to an interview w/ Jasmin #Benoit about a study on neg. opinions on #asexuality in the #UK from February 2025.
It’s the same study that found that 31% WRONGLY believe asexuality can be "cured" (🤮). (https://www.kcl.ac.uk/policy-institute/assets/asexuality-in-the-uk.pdf)
Interesting to listen to, explains a little how studies are made. And asexual #research is RARE.
The funniest/saddest part is that researchers expected that aphobes would hide their #aphobia. No, they don't.

People who are asexual are not simple loners who want nothing to do with anyone else. #Asexual people are perfectly capable of having fulfilling friendships and even relationships with others, contrary to these prominent acephobic myths.

The Easter long weekend is my yearly spring-cleaning time.
This year, I'm going to focus on de-Rowling my flat (#FuckJKRowling, am I right?!).
I've come to realise I've gained a lot of HP housewares and clothes over the years, which'll all get boxed up and dropped off at a local charity shop.
Not sure about my 2 Funkos though. Should I try to flog them on eBay, stuff them in a box in the attic for the future (💰), or include them with the charity stuff? 🤔

It would appear that Miss Joanne Rowling has once again shown that she is completely ignorant of something relating to the experiences of #LGBTQ people. A shocker, I know.

Just seen what old Moldermort posted on the dead bird site in relation to today being International Asexuality Day. I mean, fuck that bitch already, but now fuck that bitch with extra salt on top! :asexual_flag: #Aphobia #FuckJKRowling

Probably #aphobia's most disturbing consequence is "corrective #rape". 😬
Corrective rape is when a person is raped with the goal to turn them straight. And no, it doesn't "work". 🙄
This has actually happened to #asexual people multiple times. But why?
The reason is allonormativity, i.e. the (false) dogma that everyone deep down craves sex and likes it. Corrective rape is the sad and "logical" conclusion of this dogma. 😫
-
#Aphobia may come even from the #LGBTQ+ community: There's this idea that #asexual and #aromantic people do not belong to the LGBTQ+. A common excuse is we're not "oppressed enough". 🤡
Here's the thing: ALL #aces and #aros violate #heteronormativity. No matter how you twist and turn it, it's impossible to be ace/aro AND fully comply with heteronormativity.
Excluding people who violate heteronormtivity is patently absurd.
I'm aro-ace, and therefore LGBTQIA+.
-
More common examples of #aphobia:
> Showing "pity" towards aces and aros for "missing out" (we're fine, actually 🙄)
> Pretending the definitions are complex (did u read Wikipedia? 😛)
> Claiming that sexual and romantic attraction are equal for all (it suggests only cuz someone loves you they also want sex with you 😬)
> Framing aros/aces as yet another "invented" identities (my identity is very real, thank you 🙄)
> Calling aces/aros narcissistic for some reason 🤷 -
I had internalized #aphobia.
For years I've bought into society's notions of #sex being "important" in life.
There's the "sad #virgin" trope from TV that screwed me up. The idea is, if you're adult, and never had sex, you FAILED. 🙁
I never had sex, and I thought I was failing. But then I realized, I never truly needed sex to begin with. 🤯
#Aphobia prevented me from finding my true self. 😡
I am forever grateful for the #asexual community for their support. 😃
-
Here are the most common examples of #aphobia:
▶️ Denial of the existence of asexual (ace) or aromantic (aro) people
▶️ Claiming that everyone craves sexual/romantic relationshipsDenying our existence or experiences is one of the most basic ways to be aphobic. It's aphobic because it's just wrong.
There are more aces and aros than you think! Here are two very large online communities with people sharing their experiences:

#Aphobia is #cringe and wrong. What's the point? #Asexual/#aromantic people just wanna vibe. 😉
It's fine to not be that into #sex or #romance. It's fine to not feel sexually or romantic attracted to anyone. It's fine if you do have sex, but only rarely.
Sex and romance are deeply personal things, so don't let society put you down.
But aphobia says the opposite. Aphobia says that it is NOT okay, thus forcing everyone into sex and romance, even if it doesn't work.

A not very well-understood form of #bigotry is #aphobia.
An #educational thread. 🧵
Aphobia is bigotry against #asexual (#ace) or #aromantic (#aro) people (sometimes agender, too). And in the following posts I will do a little explainer.
(I won't talk about agender, because I'm not agender.)

May 17 is #IDAHOBITA: International Day Against #Homophobia, #Biphobia, #Transphobia, and #Aphobia.
The "A" is often missing, but not here! Because aphobia sucks, too!
I think it is the moral duty of everyone, not just members of the #LGBTQIA+, to shut down #bitotry wherever it occurs. Don't be afraid to speak out when you can do safely.
The more people do this, the harder it is to be bigoted in public.

A perfect illustration of what asexuals suffer from the medical profession resumed in one single tweet by Dr Ruth Westheimer, a renowned sex therapist who should have know better… even if it’s from 2015, I am not holding my breath regarding her having changed her mind. I also wonder if she knows some ace people are favourable to sex?
Asexuals’ treatment at the hands of doctors and therapists is not dissimilar to the treatment faced by trans people. #asexual #asexuality #sextherapy #aphobia

What I have to say about Julie Bindel’s characteristically *disgusting* behaviour is not printable so I will refrain from commenting. After all, it shouldn’t come as a surprise given she writes in a rag like the Spectator.

"Something people don't point out about #aphobia often is that most of the world doesn't use the words '#asexual' and '#aromantic'. Like, no one's conservative family is talking about how much they hate those damn asexuals but a lot of people treat romance and sex as things #humans inherently want and if you don't then you're broken and need fixing. Regardless, I'm sure someone can phrase this a lot better than I can but basically just because people don't say aspec doesn't mean they don't mean it."
