"Reasonably confident" is a good choice of words, a WiFi that one doesn't control does come with risks.When commercials in legacyMedia sell so-called #VPNs we 'see the writing is on the wall' for the legacy internet, people will gravitate to the legit, distributed VPNs (I2P and Tor).
Re: "not shipped by default"? It depends.
Tor is fast. I2P is a good speed and both are efficient when you need them to be, but yes, don't I2P while driving, look out a window. :P

Whether this is about ActivityPub or not is of little consequence to us. All we see is that without some level of #participation/input from peers to help serve specific content (images and video), it is quite obvious that the #Fediverse will trend back towards re-centralisation.We call on #I2P developers to explore how they can make something like #GlutPlug work in fediverse clients like #Tokodon (possibly #Fedilab too, but #AllPhonesAreBad so maybe not).

Whenever their protest shows signs of being effective, they'll have communication channels closed to them. They can try to call the financial institution responsible, appeal to #Falsebook, one's #ISP… they won't restore anything. In fact they'll probably try the line, "Install this app to allow us access to your phone to *diagnose* the problem" 🤣
In this digital age, if you don't own your communication, you have nothing.

Great effort here!We have come to the point of realising that there are no #ethicalPhones. All of them require proprietary bits to power the #wifi and #radio components.
Thus all #smartphones are unable to be used in our view.
This might just be an #Australia problem, however and your country might be okay, but we sincerely doubt it. It appears to be a global problem.

It seems unless one orders something online, or goes abroad to purchase a phone/modem **or computer**, its impossible to obtain a new, #ethical device. By "ethical" it means, easily removeable/#replaceableBattery, a sane (smaller) size (#phones), no #fingerprintScanner hardware, easily flashable with #FOSS firmware.Imagine if instead of focusing on building nuclear subs, #Australia focused that $370b on ethical devices that protect people from abuses.

Sorry for the late response.The #InviziblePro app sounds like a compelling solution that one can use mobile devices, with the help of friends at #FDroid.
Unfortunately, it seems #Australia don't allow ethical #telephony devices into the country. What we mean when we say that is devices that can easily be flashed with ethical #FOSS firmware. Otherwise it would be a contender.
Today we prescribe to #APAB or #AllPhonesAreBad.

We adopted the phrase, #APAB (All Phones Are Bad) a while back for this (and other) reasons. But they sound like scammers to be honest. Maybe they are not, but they sound very scammer-like.Acts, quacks, then likely is a scammer.

We regret we're unable to access links at the moment.There is a term we've been using, #APAB. It means 'All Phones (today) Are Bad'. Let's just say we are likely to continue to use the term for the foreseeable future.

Sounds like #dataCollection for the purposes of compromising all known computer systems that a dissenter might need to access.Its likely #overrreach, #securityTheatre and an abuse of privacy and privilege of course.
There are almost no #ethical paid jobs left in tech — maybe some #gameDev, and maintaining *some* existing systems.
