This record was pure catharsis from the get go. A literary substantiated anger in a relentless face melting assault on all the senses. Deserved top spot.

This record oozes fantasy from every song, but instead of becoming a tired trope, it is well crafted like the Ring of legend itself. Well rounded, beautifully crafted and revealing beautiful details upon inspection.

Sixth place features 2 friends of mine in the Dutch band Noctambulist. Their second album Nocambulist II: De Droom (The Dream) shows us how dreamy post-black can be whilst at the same time being very concise. The record doesn't meander and never stops driving the sound forward.
The sound picks you up and takes you for a drive in outer space whilst actually just relaxing in your favourite chair. Epic guitar solo's follow big blast beats and driving tempo's.

In ninth place we find the Swiss outfit Aara with their latest record Eiger. The sound of this record is al cold as the winter storms haunting this mountain side in the Alps of the same name.
Excellent #AtmosphericBlackMetal that explores the horrors of the tales surrounding a doomed expedition to Eiger's bare and almost vertical 'Mordwand' (murder wall) and the music is as bleak as you'd expect.
