#aoty2023 — Public Fediverse posts

In this week's #TuneTuesday, @Kitty is asking about our #2024MusicDiscoveries, or music we found this year (but regardless of the release year).
I've listened to so many of the songs you good people have been kind enough to share and I'm really grateful for that. Unfortunately that prevents me to pick just one from the vast ocean of excellent music 😔
Ashen by #HumanitysLastBreath was my #AOTY2023, which made me discover the sound. Exploring the genre (some say it isn't one, nor is #Djent, but who cares) has put new bands onto my radar.
Curious about what I found? Check out #ThallNights. Happy listening 😁

My best of 2023 selection majorly consists of albums with some personal value (while also being top in terms of musical quality). Those who've followed me for a while might notice that my taste has gradually shifted over the last couple of years. A separate list for EPs, Demos and Splits shall follow sometime later as well as a couple more top releases grouped by similarity.

AOTY:
• Kiira - Iättömän Sanat ( Amor Fati Productions )

For the #MetalAOTY . #AOTY2023

Tried to pick a little variety in different aspects / styles, I think probably 2 of these are going to be timeless.

In no particular order,

➕ Haken - Fauna

➕ Infidel - Lokust

➕ Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags

➕ Insomnium - Anno 1696

➕ King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - PetroDragonic Apocalypse;

So, this 2023, I'd been hooked to this record since it was released (and was released in february!!!!) my favorite album of the year #AOTY2023 is

#Hellripper #WarlocksGrimAndWhiteredHags

That said, my short little #MetalAOTY #AOTY2023 list would be:

1 Blackbraid - Blackbraid II
2 Lokust - Infidel
3 Graves Hollow - Thrones of Decay (@GravesHollow )
4 Enslaved – Heimdal

Blackbraid II in particular was a revelation, a tonic and an obsession in 2023.

Looking at the #MetalAOTY and #AOTY2023 lists coming through, two things are clear:

1. I need to listen to more new metal in 2024.

2. I need to listen to a few albums again - ones that didn't grab me in the first few listens but clearly have resonated strongly with other Fedimetal people.

2) Crypta - Shades Of Sorrow
3) Vomitory - All Heads Are Gonna Roll
4) Leper Colony - Leper Colony
