5/28/2026"A youth homelessness agency says Budget 2026 has 'abandoned' #Rangatahi experiencing homelessness, as new data shows homelessness in Aotearoa is at its highest level ever.
"Youth housing collective Manaaki Rangatahi pou ārahi (chief executive) Bianca Johanson described the Budget as 'an ivory tower budget', saying young people and #whānau struggling through the #CostOfLiving crisis had been ignored.
" 'I heard [critics] call this the abandonment budget. They have abandoned us and that's how it feels,' Johanson said.
" 'There is just more picking on the poor, making things tougher for those that are already just finding it hard to survive daily."
"It comes as a new report from Community Housing Aotearoa found homelessness had reached its highest recorded level in Aotearoa, with more than half of those experiencing homelessness under the age of 24.

"Manaaki Rangatahi Waikato regional connector Danielle Marks said the situation for #Māori experiencing homelessness was "disgusting".
" 'I think first and foremost, it's really disgusting that Māori especially are homeless on their own whenua,' she said."

Unlike other Ōhāriu candidates I know that every child deserves to learn about their own bodies and biology and what healthy relationships look like, in appropriate ways and at appropriate times, for their safety and others' safety, and sadly we cannot just "leave that to parents" - not if we care about gay kids, trans kids, non-binary kids, or abused kids. They deserve accurate information and the freedom to work these things out for themselves.

This is one of those "clarifying makes it worse" statements. She's correct, we DON'T have "the risk of border closures, gathering limits, cancellations of large-scale events" ... because the Government has literally given up all those tools.
"With COVID cases surging and more people in hospitals already stretched to breaking point, New Zealanders may have CERTAINTY in the fact we will do NOTHING about it" is not ... a great message

It's so bitter that a fairly progressive electorate - a top 10 for Green party vote - got saddled with a(nother) conservative MP after Dunne. Built a career advocating more armed cops on our streets, whose "high" point in Parliament to date is voting against abortion law reform

A responsible, caring leader says, we don't want to see this happen, let's make changes while it's still possible they might make a difference
