I know this isn't the famous "Definitive Edition" of AoE II - which is also great! - but I'm still in love with this game in its original version and form. Looking at this at an aspect ratio of 4:3 running on Windows 95 just feels right in so many ways! And it still plays great!

P.S. I'd like to give a shout out to the development team of 86Box. You guys are keeping my childhood computers alive. Thank you!

Shortly after I stopped playing Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition two years ago, they released all of Age of Empires 1 as an expansion for 15€.

I never actually played that game. Totally gotta get it.

I really don't know why I keep getting pulled back into playing Age of Empires 2 competitively every day.

I am really bad at the game.

And I know I keep losing almost every game because I have not yet gotten around to start building an army when the other player invades my base. What I am completely lacking is the most basic RTS skill of doing both at the same time.
And still I want to play more every day.

I picked up Age of Empires 2 again and thought I could replay the campaigns on silver.

My life if pain and suffering!!!

I might insanely try to continue with this in two or three days, but playing more than just the French campaign on silver is not going to happen. Bronze is perfectly enough.

Haven't used Win Apps on Linux for a while now (not months, more like years). #usebottles is really nice. Distributed as Flatpak, with environments located inside the Sandbox. Played some hours Age of Empires II in Multiplayer LAN mode wirhout a single problem. 💻 🎮

It's the first day back at work after the Christmas break and for this evening I'm already thinking about which game to play of the several that I (re)started while I was on leave.

Option 1 - continue my latest Baldur's Gate run (BG1, not this fancy BG3 business) that I'm enjoying. Playing as a semi-evil Blade this time!
Option 2 - I picked up F1 Manager 2024 on sale for the Switch and I'm working my way through the season as a backmarker, which is way more fun than picking Red Bull and steamrolling my way to the podium every race. It's a shame that the Switch port seems to run a bit sluggish.
Option 3 - overcome my "ranked anxiety" and play an online game of Age of Empires 2 for the first time in a year or two, and not care too much about winning or losing.

I should probably give #aoe2 another try. I've been sitting on definitive edition for a long time. 🤔

Paper Money ranks among the worst unique techs in #aoe2. Here's my fix: make all garrisoned units generate gold. For the Vietnamese, an archer civ, this tweak promotes a distinctive play style, making towers and castles crucial.

Recently got into Age Of Empires 2 DE, and graduated to the moderate AI. This was probably my craziest game so far (50 hours). Spanish v/s Korean.

When it comes to #RTS #games, only the #AgeOfEmpires series is actively supported and lively right now. Mainly #AOE2 and #AOE4. And don't even mention #Blizzard's #StarCraft 2. They said years ago that they stopped supporting it. No more content, funding or anything... meanwhile AOE2 keeps getting constant patching and DLCs even tho' the basegame is over 20 years old. Now that's commitment!

Being able to rebuff an early rush in Age of Empires 2 and rebound into a successful counter attack is a great feeling. I feel like I'm starting to do a lot better in the macro management when taking on fights better than I used to. Always used to crumble under the pressure and neglect my eco.

#AgeOfEmpires 3 Definitive Edition just went #FreeToPlay! It's not the full version but there's a portion of the campaign and you can try out different civs each week.

#AOE3 was a hidden gem if you ask me. A black sheep oftentimes considered to be in the shadows of its predecessor, #AOE2.

I still think aoe2 is objectively better, but aoe3 is still a lot of fun and definitely worth checking out!

I actually liked it more than #AOE4.

#AoE4 had lots of shortcomings and balance issues early on but I think they might have been ironed out.
#AgeOfEmpires2 still seems way popular and better received of two.
#AoE2 Definitive Edition has been one of the best remasters I've ever played. I have nothing but praises about it.

Haven't gotten #AoEIV yet and I've been enjoying #AoEII or more precisely, #AoE2DE quite a lot and bought all the DLC.

AoE4 dropped from 60€ to 40€ and is 40% off at 24€
