An excellent article. This spoke to me in so many ways. The conservative capture of the RSL and the AWM, and of course the misuse of ANZAC Day to glorify war leaves many ex-serving members in limbo. Our governments are terrible and our journalists insufficiently curious.

Guess which 2 countries failed to sign a condemnation of #US #Trump threat of sanctions against #ICC?
Somewhat surprisingly the answer is #Australia and #NewZealand. It appears that the #ANZACS have joined the #Nazis in protecting war criminals from prosecution.

I knew there was a WWI #BritishEmpire graveyard there from when we were sort of on their side… but also not at all on their side… but 1942 is even more messy?

Exploring #GoogleMaps I found a #WWI War Cemetery in #Gaza has (had?) with #BritishEmpire troops who died fighting the #OttomanEmpire
They are Muslims (from India), Christian (some are English, some don't say so could be ANZACs), and Jewish (it doesn't say where they are from, probably English).
A few are in their 40s, maybe officers?

The #antiwar movement is as old as #Australia, while it's almost never talked about. There's no glory in sending the #working classes to die for #imperialist #causes.
#ANZACs who were sent to to the other side of the #planet in the first #worldwar died for nothing, their lives were taken from them by #nationalist #propaganda.

As we observe ANZAC Day here in New Zealand I am thinking of all the "freedoms" allied soldiers are lauded for dying to protect which are now blatantly under attack by fascists in the "Allied" countries.
I am also thinking of Україна 🇺🇦 , defending itself against a war of conquest by one of those allies and where Kiwis are also voluntarily fighting and have died to protect those freedoms.
