From #Dambulla, my next stop was #Polonnaruwa, one of Sri Lanka’s ancient capitals. And this time, it really clicked. Unlike #Anuradhapura, this place immediately felt more immersive and atmospheric.
The ruins are surrounded by dense vegetation, giving it an almost Angkor Wat–like feel, though on a smaller scale. Temples, palaces, monasteries… the variety here makes the visit much more dynamic.

After #Anuradhapura, I spent a few days in #Dambulla, using it as a base to explore key sites of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle.
My first stop was the #CaveTemple, a series of #Buddhist caves covered in wall paintings, with beautiful views over Sri Lanka’s lush green landscape.
Dambulla itself didn’t really impress me.
The town isn’t particularly pretty, but it’s very practical as a base to move around the area and explore the #CulturalTriangle in #SriLanka

After #Colombo, #Anuradhapura was my next stop in #SriLanka.
Once the ancient capital, home to the sacred Bodhi Tree and massive stupas.
The city is important… but it didn’t really surprise me.

Heute probiere ich mal der zweite Klasse von #Anuradhapura nach #Jaffna mit dem Zug Yal Devi. Alles dabei: Verspätung, doppelter Gleiswechsel. Nur eben ohne verwöhnte Displays am Bahnsteig und mit Durchsage über Lautsprecher. Läuft doch 👍

Tag 3 ist zu Ende gegangen, jetzt bin ich auf dem Land in #Anuradhapura
Das war früher mal die Hauptstadt von #srilanka und es gibt bei dem ersten Welterbe Besuch sehr viel zu entdecken.
In #colombo habe ich mich noch kurz auf dem Pettah Market herumgetrieben, der mich ein bisschen an Hongkong erinnert hat. Das Gewühle und die Massen an ähnlichen Shops ist schon beeindruckend.
Ich habe eines der Nationalgerichte (Pol rotti) probiert und bin ....

Tag 1 war spannend, Reifen laufen hier gut, "Spazieren gehen" geht nicht in #Colombo. Und ja, es riecht nicht immer nach frischer Orange auf den Straßen. Die Menschen sind sehr freundlich und man kann sich wirklich nicht vor Angeboten der tuk tuk Menschen retten. Mittwoch geht's in der dritten Klasse nach #Anuradhapura.

Today's stupa is #Mirisawetiya stupa in #Anuradhapura, #SriLanka. Like many stupas, this one was built by a #Buddhist king. Read more on Wikipedia:
