  1. I've completed the restoration on the antique Disston 26" crosscut saw I posted last week (aus.social/@trib/1103472994751).
This saw was is a pretty rough state when I got it home, with a heavily rusted blade, broken handle, and rusted fittings.
I decided to repair the broken handle rather than make a new one. It has gone pretty well, with the handle now solid after rough sanding back and re-assembly with a combination of strong Gorilla Glue wood glue and both light and heavy cyanoacrylate. Initial sanding was with 80 grit, with finishing in 180 grit and then a coating of linseed oil. The split nuts were sanded back with 80 grit and then finished with 220 grit.
While I still need to source a larger split nut for the maker's mark hole, the saw is ready for service and cuts well, though it might need a quick sharpening and for the teeth to be set correctly.
I'm very happy with this result; the other tools I've picked up can now join the project list. Lots learned this time around!

  3. This Proto screwdriver has been on my keychain most of my adult life. My father gave it to me, and it may have come from his father. I rarely use it as a screwdriver any more, but it's endlessly useful as a pry tool and for splitting open the tape on shipping boxes. I use it multiple times a week.
