  1. "There are a number of reasons why I'm not a communist. The first of them is that I'm not against the idea of private business, as long as it does not oppose people's human rights and the interests of society. Business is legitimate as long as it treats the rest of society decently."

    - Richard Stallman

  2. Fedi Canadian political curiosity of the day:

Was followed by someone with Canadian flag emojis all over their profile. Their bio said they were interested in climate change and social justicey stuff (including hashtag "politics" which will be important later) and said they would "BLOCK" anti-LGBTQ+ folks and racists. It also said #NeverVoteConservative. Nationalism aside, (nationalism is terrifyingly normalised with Canadians) that all seemed good to me but then they followed their line about blocking those bad folks with "Communists --Block" which is ... weird. So, I messaged them and asked why they followed me and also block communists, to which they responded that their vision is partially impaired right now, and they didn't see "communism" in my bio. They thanked me for telling them and promptly blocked me. They said they are for "degrowth" but without "politics," which seems bizarre to me. Anyone encountered this before? How can you change the way the world works enough to get "degrowth" without "politics"? And why is "communism" "political" but "never vote conservative" not?

(Also, degrowth without communism/anarchism isn't gonna cut it, but that's beside the point.)
