"Every Black person I know has a story of just trying to get through their day when some racist shit pops up. Every Black person I know has to regularly calculate their safety in those moments and figure out their next move. And every Black person I know is punished for whichever way they choose to react. If they are openly angry then they are dangerous, or militant, overreacting, or lacking empathy for the person who has just harmed them. If they react with kindness or a desire to educate then they are forced to carry the emotions of the person who has just harmed them. If they decide to ignore it then they are told by others that it’s obvious by their reaction that this harm is acceptable and it will continue in with gusto.
"These moments happen at work, on the street, in the grocery store. And they apparently also happen to our most celebrated actors onstage in front of an audience of millions. And when it happens, with the cameras rolling, they will have to assess their safety, gather their emotions, and continue on. Customers are waiting."

Here's another example of a big media outlet really pulling its punches about extreme racists. Yet I feel obligated to share because it's an important story.
In this case, it's about a housing development in Arkansas that is overtly screening applicants to ensure they're white. That's not exactly new in the US, but it's been a while since developers have so explicitly used it as a selling point.
There's no question that this is illegal and has been for almost 60 years. But in 2025, the developers think they can get away with it, and they may well be right. The state attorney general's office is "continuing our review of this matter," and the governor has no comment.
The symbolism of Little Rock as the starting point for the return of legal segregation is really something.

Somehow I missed this when the story broke a few weeks ago: Atomwaffen Division co-founder Brandon Russell has been given a 20-year prison sentence for plotting to attack the Baltimore power grid with his girlfriend (h/t @MusiqueNow). He had been found guilty back in February, but sentencing was only earlier this month.
They picked Baltimore in part because the girlfriend, Sarah Beth Clendaniel, also a neo-nazi, was from the area, but mostly because it's a city with a large Black population. Clendaniel recently got an 18-year sentence for her part in the plot.
